I just got Chrome 4.0.288.1 dev for Mac; this is not the Chromium version. It has extensions. So your article may be out of date already.

I'm afraid I must be an outlier, then. I'm an Android user and I access Gmail frequently via my smartphone (G1). Also, my time may be split a bit more as the Facebook app for Android often "bottoms out" and sends you to the mobile, touch, or full browser if you want to do something the app cannot yet accommodate.
