I don't even need to read the rest of the linked article to tell what kind of dude this is. My douche alarms are already going off like crazy.

Re: Mel Gibson Wants You (So Long As…)

I'll give you an internship, but you will blow me first.

Re: Rubber Fetus Ban Taken To Court

Sure they're annoying, but it's not that difficult to toss the things in the trash (or tell the student handing them out to back off). I do it all the time with the psychotic pamphlets and comic books people strategically leave behind at work.

Re: Everybody Draw Muhammad Day! Gantz is pretty graphic, but it's still just a comic book.

My problem with this whole situation is that the mother allowed her son to steal a book and didn't force him to return it, and then decided to keep it when she deemed the material unsuitable for general audiences. Someone needs to both learn how to properly raise a child and respect other people's First Amendment rights.

Re: Man Arrested for Photographing Cop Who Followed Him Into His Home

"Public intoxication"? Seriously? It's no wonder the charges were overturned, but what I'm genuinely curious about is why they were filed in the first place. Why waste time filling out the paperwork and going through the motions for obviously bullshit charges?

Re: Police State Lockdown In Toronto For G20 Summit

Same shit, different city in a different year. Here's hoping they don't overstep their boundaries (yeah, right) and gas the students just outside of their dormitories like they did here last year.

Bringing this nonsense and disorder into the public is ridiculous. There's no reason a new city each year has to be subjected to this kind of interruption. Scale your pow-wow down, assholes, and host it on a military base. Nobody wants to be sequestered in their home or be harassed outside of their office while trying to go about their everyday life.

Re: Douglas Coupland’s Generation X Clothing Line

Seeing as how he takes dead-on potshots at popular culture and, at least in the case of his self-insertion in jPod, himself, I was tempted to chuckle and go searching for the snark that had to be there somewhere. However, seeing as how he's also written the Souvenir of Canada books (and narrated the documentary of the same name), this could be something genuine.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see the line when it comes out.

Re: James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’ Censored Again — This Time By Apple

Sad as this sounds, prudishness in this country is so common it's difficult to work up outrage over it anymore. I'll be checking it out through the website and avoiding the app, obviously. It makes me wonder if they would do the same for other works with questionable language (Mark Twain, etc), were they to receive the same adaptative treatment, or if they draw the line only at the naked body.

If anyone's interested in reading Ulysses on an Apple product (and on the cheap, to boot) in a non-visual format it's available as a free text download (via Project Gutenberg) through iBooks, along with several other classic works.

Re: Writer's Blog: Leo Tolstoy: Great Writer, Terrible Husband

It seems a lot of well known and/or highly regarded novelists turned out to be horrible to the people closest to them. It becomes harder for me as a reader to respect their bodies of work while knowing what insufferable jerks they were in real life.
