1) Bible verses with the conduct rules? It's like going back to Fundy School when I was a kid.

2) You may need to post clearer directions for the transfer from beliefnet b/c I'm not sure some of the regular liberals on here have the cognitive wherewithal to navigate their way over here all by themselves (e.g. Don, Payshun, Carl, Squeaky, Neuro, James M, etc)

3) Could we each please be allowed one mulligan on the new conduct rules? I keep score and I know I owe Kevin S at least a couple of below-the-belt shots!

Where are all the small-government, anti-socialists who decry government intrusion into private enterprise when unrestrained capitalism bites itself in the rear end? Think of how many Americans could have health insurance coverage with a $700 billion government bailout!

The other day as I was sharing the love of Jesus with my wife by reminding her that I've found most women don't have the cognitive wherewithal to follow some of my loftier arguments, she promptly went to my desk and hauled "A Christianity for the Rest of Us" to shake in my face and declare with disgust, unlike Sarai of old who called Abram "lord" and "master," "Excuse me, moron, but I do believe you're now reading this book for the third or fourth time!!??"

I told her it's just the first time b/c the book has small print and my eyes are bad.
I told her it's just the first time b/c Diana is a bad speller so I have to read slowly.
I told her it's just the first time b/c rabid feminists intent on disrupting the work of God stole my other copies.

Jim - I'd really like to help on this matter but I'm just so stressed out personally right now, I don't know how that is remotely possible.

Why, just this week, I had to take my Lexus in for a tune-up, the wife's BMW started making a funny noise and both kids' Toyotas' need a pre-winter tire change. That combined with having to wait another two weeks for our new in-home stereo system to be installed and the three additional satellite TV dishes we're having added tomorrow, well, it all just gets a little overwhelming.

In, ahem, discussions such as this that I've participated in before, I've learned that basically the issue is whether women are willing to wear head coverings while preaching. Accordingly, I'd like to go on the record as offering to underwrite the SBC for as many Bud Light ball caps as they require in order to allow their gals to preach.

I read somewhere recently that the Red Sea Scrolls clearly reveal that Paul got burned in a bad divorce settlement where she called him a "dead-beat dad" and all manner of things, hence his perspective that women can only use their gifts in the administration of the church nursery and/or kitchen.

Oh, and Sunday School rooms where students are under 18 yrs of age.

Oh, and on the foreign mission field where we all know that a different version of the Bible and different hermeneutics are used so as to legitimize women teachers/pastors owing to the disproportionate rate of female vs. male missionaries - most of whom stayed home so they could function as male elders, male deacons, male chairmans of the board and church maleman

Can we males please get our minute brains around the reality that were it not for competent females who actually took seriously the Great Commission and did in the regions beyond what we wouldn't allow them to do here in North America, the international church of Jesus Christ would be half the size it is today!!??

Now tell me none of those converted to Christ under the ministry of females aren't "legit" converts!

Now tell me a different hermeneutic doesn't prevail in North American-centric ?nty than we permit to prevail in the regions beyond!

Is it any wonder, thoughtful folks like Humphrey the camel above look at our hermeneutical/cultural gymnastics and snort up their sleeves. As Mark Noll wrote some 15 years ago, "the problem with the evangelical mind is that there is no evangelical mind." Seems nothing has changed in that regard!

Tut-tut! In other words, you actually were exercising authority over a man, you were "judging" his theology, his credentials/preparation for ministry, no? I myself have no problem w/ that but what's with these churches that don't see that as a violation of 1 Tim 2?

The fact of the matter is (at least in congregational polity which is where my experience has been), we all, pastors included, operate within a structure of delegated authority. Pastors come under the authority of the congregation - are there women in your congregation who as members of the church have a right to vote? Then they implicitly have authority over the pastor. What is so difficult to understand about this?

Oh, and sigride, make mine chocolate chip, please? :)
