I think that's kind of the definition of "natural born citizen" as stated in the Constitution . . . It was meant to differentiate from naturalized citizens. It was not meant to exclude people because they were born of citizens who happened to be off the special dirt of our coulntry.

I think there's no rule saying you must be born on American soil, just of American citizenss. Otherwise many people whose parents were in the Service and had kids while they were stationed overseas had kids who weren't American citizens. I think John McCain is a prime example. He was born in Panama, as I recall.

Aren't you tired f the IRS persecution idea? Having had to file forms, etc., with IRS about the tax status of our election campaign, I am familiar with the rules, and the rules these conservative organizations were violating we're perfectly clear. There weren't many progressive/liberal campaigns doing this, mostly conservative campaign committees, so it is no wonder the IRS was looking at them. Why did the conservatives think they should get away with this?

It wasn't Ralph who was responsible for Bush, it was our very partisan Supreme Court. When the campaigns were looking for something to counter the "State's Rights" from our Constitution whe the right to determine the outcome of an election is reserved to the individual state, and not the Federal Government, the looked for any excuse they could find to interfere, finally coming up with "Equal Protection" as their excuse.

Conservatives have been able to use Nixon's ploy to great effect. He said that if you tell a lie enough times it becomes the truth, and they have done that to great effect. Nice the lie has become true, then they can fall back on it to prove they were right.

That was pretty much my point. I find, however, that it's easier to discuss issues with people when you give them a more positive pprsisal of their opinions than by dismissing them as the idiots they seem to be who knows? Maybe they're right! I haven't seen any indication of that yet, but I am willing to hear any new arguments to that end.

I find the idea many folks have of getting a third party into the mix not only complicates things (look at Bush-Gore), but doesn't offer any real solution to the problem as it stands. As Dr. Reich says, the solution is in re-regulating wealth, and I suspect that's what's going to happen pretty soon, It won't happen until a fairly large group of self-righteous right-wingers find out that the way they are voting is what's screwing them royally, and then they'll get fighting mad and look to try something else. In the mean time all of us get screwed because these folks have such a limited sense of responsibility and a very short view of what they're doing to themselves. As Truman advised people, "Look at what's good for you and your neighbors, and who's made life better for you, and you'll end up voting Democratic every time.

We have to be careful about who we quote as making accurate determinations about what happened, An ME, "medical examiner", can tell us what the cause of death was, but he is not an authority on HOW the victim was killed. For that you need a forensic pathologist, a preson whose job it is to make those very determinations, after accessing all the pertinent information. Dr. Baden was such a man, and he was outstanding in his field. He has always been though, and objective,and it's a problem for me that anyone has denied him access to the police records or anything else. That would deem to me to be indicative of some kind of coverup. An example is that maybe when he realized he was being shot at he instinctively raised his arm to stop the bullets, which is of course a futile effort. but could account for some of the many wounds. Dr.Baden can make that determination far better than any ME, but he needs al the information he can get to do it.

Unless you pay all the medical costs for your kids, the people who do actually pay them for you are entitled to know what the risk pool is, and having a gun is one of those. It also says a lot about the parents, and not for the better, that they have a gun in the house. Little kids find these things and shoot . . . kill . . . other little kids. . But by your posts I can see that you aren't that concerned about your child's welfare as you want to think you are. Or you want US to think you are. I don't know where you're finding your information, but I suspect not an ounce of it is from a legitimate site, but only from a site that will support your own viewpoint. I wouldn't be posting on here if I were you.

Psychological studies have shown that at one time or another, a vast majority of us, being "normal" people, will be mentally unstable, even if for only a very short time. Should we have general access to guns when this happens? My own feeling is that merely wanting guns for "protection" is a sign of mental instability. The odds of needing a gun for that reason are probably worse than the dds of winning the lottery; people DO win the lottery, but how often? How often have people benefitted from having a gun, and how often have they suffered more from having a gun? I think, from the statistics that are available, more people are harmed be legal guns than have ever benefitted from them.

I'd be ashamed to call myself a Constitutional Attorney without recognizing that the 2nd Amendment has a first part meant to clarify why people have the "right" to have arms. At the time the amendment was written, there was no standing federal military, but there were "well-regulated" militias, and since there was no federal military, the militiamen were expected to own their own weapons. It doesn't appear that

anyone of the founding fathers expected that there's be a federal military at the time, expecting, maybe, that the several states would all raise their own "militias" as needed.

Be sure you know about our Constitution and its history . . . as I said above, when our Constitution was adopted, there was no standing army, etc., and the reason for the amendment was so that a militia could be raised when needed. Read it, and you'll see that's what's written, clearly.

More to the point, when the amendment was passed, there was no standing army, navy, etc., so the only form of national defense was to have a militia, in this case the "Minutemen". To raise that militia, people needed to have guns. Now they don't.
