No, private is private and you land at your own peril, sorry, discretion. But you need permission from the owner to land and he will tell you any idiosyncrasies. He is as reluctant as you are to have an accident take place on his airstrip - there's so much paperwork to fill in.

The fuel tanks in the wings are an advantage - not disadvantage. You always get fuel flow to the engine by gravity - no fuel pump to pack up!

Depends how far away you are! The flight described here took an hour and the bit over water to cross the channel is 12 minutes.

Yes, it's great. But it doesn't just happen one day. It comes little by little pushing the boundaries a bit further each time.
