Hi Amy,

At the moment Facebook does not allow any applications to be added to groups, be it the Justgiving app or Scrabulous.

I don't know if they have any plans to allow this in the future, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I have joined groups to support people fundraising using Justgiving and it would be great to allow a group to show the app and their fundraising progress - but it does depend on Facebook, not us I'm afraid.

Thanks for your comment Alan. We're always happy to hear what people make of our fees and for them to argue their case. Whilst I appreciate your desire to see our transaction fee reduced on donations over a certain ceiling, I assure you that no-one, either shareholders or staff at Justgiving, is getting fat.

As a company, we first made a profit only two years ago and we still have accumulated losses running into millions of pounds. Our running costs also amount to millions of pounds annually.

The vast majority of donations on the site are less than £50, but the cost of processing them, including reclaiming Gift Aid, is disproportionately high. It is only by charging the same percentage on all donations that we are able keep down the charges on the much smaller donations. Were we to have a lower % fee for the higher donations, we would probably have to increase our fee for the lowest donations. And I think you’d agree that that would really hurt the smallest charities on our site, the people to whom, arguably, we provide the most value.

I don’t have any more of the “best practice” webinars planned for November as demand was a lot less from when we took them in September originally. I am, however, going to be recording a webcast of what I go through and make that available in the charity account in the next couple of weeks. That will give you a flavour of what I go through and I’ll be sure to include my notes too.

For the YAA this was a really great method of collecting donations, and it continues to be a great method for lots of other UK charities - and that's why we're here - to help people raise as much money as possible with the minimum of effort! :-)

Hi Jack, thanks for your comment - I welcome the fact that you've given your opinion.

And I agree that nothing is ever totally free, I would hope that people who were deciding what CRM system to use would not take my post as the start and end point of a tender exercise.

But what you don't mention is that those associated costs are universal for any system and, as far as I know, the cost of other software systems is by no means free.

And as you say, the realities of the world should be taken into account - SFDC, like any other option, will only work if properly implemented, all relevant staff are trained, and all costs are properly thought out and compared.

This is something I do personally here at JG (as a fellow SF evangelist), and something that has taken me, and will continue to take, a lot of time.

Thanks for your comment. I felt the need to add an update to the post as I realised that it could be read that there is integration between JG and SF now - to clear that up, we hope there to be at some point, and are discussing it, but there isn't anything concrete yet.

There's not really a developers/testing blog that will keep you up to date - all the news on updates will be posted here. So keep on checking the RSS! :-)

Liz, thanks very much for your comment, we appreciate you taking the time to give your opinion.

We are aware that a large majority of charities will not need all of the information in the report, and that's why we wanted to provide you with another Excel sheet that would help you delete all the columns you don't need and provide only the info you do need.

As I say at http://justgiving.typepad.com/charities/2008/05/payment-repor-1.html we'd hoped to have that ready for today, but it's not quite there. The idea of having a "lite" version of reports is one we have discussed too, and is we'll take that back up with our tech team to see if it is possible - although we have found in the past that trying to define fields people need is not a perfect solution - so many people need different data that is hard to please everyone.

But as I say, we value your opinion on this as we are trying to balance the speed and availability of the reports with the need for different people to have different data. So this is not necessarily the only way reports will continue to be offered in future without any other assistance - we do listen to what you tell us works best for you and we try our best, if possible, to meet those needs.

In reply to both Janine and Viv, we do have something in the pipeline that will help you manage these reports - and the tester who was working on this yesterday is actually sick today, which has not helped us get out the solution we have in mind.
I will email you all on this thread when we have the alternative ready - which will be as soon as we can, with any luck before the end of the week.
