Who would have benefitted from a tighter called game?

Re: Well, a good Tuesday morning to you all …

I miss Frankie Benjamin's radio show. Hector, your Blog replaces it nicely. I can read it on my schedule which is even more convenient. The Eagle blows away the Sun's HS sports coverage too. When is Teddy's show on the radio? They don't travel much further than Cawley stadium I'll bet.
MVC Pride. While I'll agree with you Hec, that many of the other conferences are as strong and this may not be the MVC's best season, historically and currently, the MVC from top to bottom is a war every week. I equate them to the Big 10. They may not win the national championship but every game is a war and an event. The SEC and SWC has better teams on top, the bottom teams are usually pretty easy. You have to agree that it is a fun league to watch.

They must have great referee's too. I don't read as much criticism of them as I see during Hoop Season... ;)

Re: Boys Hoops chat

MVC- I was not taking it personally or being sarcastic. I think you are right. It is not easy to manage the sidlines and I admit I need to do a better job.

Re: How about 10 refs, one for each player???

Hector: We make $72 per game. The rate for 3 officials is $61. I thought you understood and appreciated the part the referee plays in this great game of basketball. I guess I was wrong. You deserve a Technical foul for this post.

Re: Boys Hoops chat

Wow, Ouch, that hurt, because you are absolutely right! Guilty as charged your honor.

Re: Buzzing in the middle of a weekend hoop high …

You are absolutely right, it could have been crazy! It is a correctable error if discovered in time.

Re: Buzzing in the middle of a weekend hoop high …

Great BLOG! Real Good Stuff! To defend my brother referees; those two teams' coaches get thier teams so up for their games they would fight in the parking lot if would give them a win. They HAD to call it tight to start the game; most teams would get the message and play cleaner. There is no back down in either team so the stripes have to keep whistling fouls.
Before you jump on the referees; the team foul count is kept by the SCORER, not the game officials. They absolutely need to know that they are going to shoot 1 and 1, or 2 based on what the scoreboard and scorer tell them. It is close to impossible to keep those counts acurate in your head. I was not there and do not know what was on the scoreboard or what was communincated to the officials, but I am willing to bet there were plenty of people in the stands who would provide some verbal support if they thought the officials needed a little help... A lot more takes place at the scorerer's table than most people know; just ask the Watertown and Lexington people!
I have said in the past and will continue to beat this drum Hector; The Large School MVC Teams require 3 officials to adequately cover their games. The level of play and intensity in a Lowell-Andover or Central-Lawrence game exceeds many Div III College Conferences.
