Unfortunately, if an apology is in order, it should come from the participants. As I understand it, this is a private, not city sponsored event.

Unfortunately, again, facts are facts, 18 teenagers are pregnant, unmarried, and this is the sad, sorry truth. The rest, homeless man, someone fathering now 4 children, I only know what the papers/media present.

Too little?Too late?Apologies or moral responsibilities of the 18(make that 36) parents to be.

It has become a way of life, that pregnancy among the unmarried younger generation is a novelty.

Unfortunately, once again, at the expense of the children to be, and the grandparents that will be called on to support & care for their children(age wise at this point) and the new babies.

And, you and I, will support them all with our tax dollars for years to come. Yes it truly is a Horribles Parade of life.

How refreshing it is, to read about something pleasant and from the heart. And to think, a homeless person, had a vision and the energy and willingness to give something of beauty to the neighborhood.He is a special man, for sure, with insight and the city has benefitted.

And a big thank you to Home Depot and the nurseries and others that had the generosity to see a worthwhile project, regardless of who was going to do it.

Makes me smile(and some days, that's not easy, LOL)

So, are you giving him thanks for not being publicly drunk?I thought that was a given?

Insight?That a person thinks more of others, given the fact he is homeless.I bet you aren't and evidently don't have as much charity as he does.

By the way, nowhere in the article does it say that he is a drunk. It just says, he is homeless.

First, I don't live in Gloucester, nor do I know any of the *players* involved in this public soap opera based on real life sad state of events.

I am just wondering, who wrote this article?Usually, the writer's name is listed, and am wondering how unbiased it is.

Hmnnnn, how come the post from FOXY mysteriously MOVED to the bottom of the list, and tgirls, was not posted before FOXY's?????

Foxy mentioned that it appeared to be some sort of an editorial.

Then, I read, that the Mayor's husband is an editor for the paper?If this is true, and I know not if it is, but if it is, strange that Foxy's post was plummeted to the bottom and the supporters were skyrocketed to the second place after mine.

And I know that Foxy's was posted after mine, as I checked when I saw that this *editorial* had two postings.

Where is the integrity?

FWIW, I googled for info, and found the following, from an article dated September 24, 2007 in the Gloucester Daily times, mentioning that, in fact, the mayor's husband is an Editor, formerly with the times, and now with the Eagle Tribune(same organization as Gloucester, Newburyport and Salem News and others) as Follows:
She graduated from Boston College, married Bill Kirk, then a Times reporter and now business editor for its sister paper, The Eagle-Tribune, in 1989 and settled in Gloucester.
End of newspaper quote. So in fact, it is true.
Not saying he wrote it, but still wonder who did?Thanks for the heads up FOXY & Mulder.

Evidently the two articles were written from two different sources.And you are correct, the spousal connection certainly didn't influence yesterdays scathing comments.

Politics certainly remain the same old, same old.

How were the police made aware of the fight?Did someone call in, or was it the bracelet?Probably someone called, those bracelets seem to work in the movies pretty effectively, but not in real life?Ho hum.....

Parents being blamed for a low life son?Don't know the *teen* or the parents, but have always believed that some people are just born evil or troubled, thats just the way it is. I know families where there may be 4 or 5 siblings, 4 of whom turn out to be decent citizens, and then you have the one that is trouble from day one.This *teen* at sixteen, raping an 11 year old , then at what, 17 killing someone when drunk, walking the streets?

I don't know the facts, for sure, but blaming the parents who may or may not have contributed to this *teen* being more than a punk, raises the question: Was he born that way?

What really ticks me off is that he is walking around, free since 2006

He did it in Swampscott for $400,000, now in MB the Sea for $60,000, lost his house, in bankruptcy, and now this Hurricane has moved to Florida?Watch your pockets, you Floridians.

He intentionally *bid low*(I assume, knowing he couldn't do the job for that price, and just to get money to pay for other jobs). This guy is a crook, plain and simple, and yet, he walked?

Where did it say he was an illegal?Did I miss it?I knew a man, fine upstanding in his community, a US citizen, who didn't shut off his snowblower, and lost a couple fingertips.Accident?Sure, he should have shut it off, as this man should have also shut off the mower.

And, such compassion from *newsreader*, it simply amazes me that some posters are so happy at others misfortunes.

WOW. This policeman certainly had an ax to grind, and no, I am neither young, or know any of the people involved.

So, the policeman gets hit by one patron, and then goes after someone else, perhaps the patron's friend? and goes at him with a vengeance, and plainly aggressive and foul mouthed(the policeman, NOT the victim, at this point).

So, someone suggests it was a set-up by the younger crowd.

Sorry, my reaction is WOW when I viewed how nasty the policeman was. Am sure that some of the patrons were indeed nasty, drunk and it doesn't excuse them.

But when, oh when, does this justify Mr. Puleo's excessive use of force?He surely looks like an idiot, and no one I would want to have to turn to for help.

And, the officer physically assaulted the bystander, PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED......him. Wonder what would have transpired if the victim had assaulted the officer.

Sorry, the 39 seconds on the film show a public servant(hah) out of control.

I hear people condemning the police, usually someone who was caught/arrested/ or guilty in some way of a crime. Bad mouthing police....I've always, except in OBVIOUS cases, taken the police's side They have a job to do, but this officer went above and beyond, and took HIS anger out at the wrong person.........

Right on! My sentiments exactly!I wonder too, about it happening before, and it finally came to light, a camera's light.It is there for all to see. The patrolman's behavior, to misquote TAUGHT TO RESPECTS comment of *never taught to respect authority* (referring to the person arrested that kicked and punched the patrolman) would add: here you have a person, in AUTHORITY, treating the bystander(who verbalized or not, walking away) with no respect.

Have you ever posted comments on another message board?I have, and they had to get a moderator, because not everyone has common courtesy or the good sense of posting on a public forum.

And, these other boards? They have, shall we say, banned some who in their ignorance, thought they had a right to say whatever they wanted. Yes we have freedom of speech, use it wisely.

After all, the Salem Evening News allows this forum and like it or not, it is THEIR forum, not the posters.....

Some of the articles in the News have had comments from people, who I think, have no other outlet. As my 9th grade teacher remarked, it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the whole barrel.Too bad some people think they are *entitled* to rant.

If the lady in question, Haskell by name, is truly concerned, and would like to *adopt* the dogs, perhaps she would be willing to foster them.It is the holiday season, and it sounds like these people who own the dogs truly care for them.

Doesn't it come down to *money* after all?Them that has, gets.And to hear about NBury port's revitalization some years back, I don't see the quaintness, and am appalled to know who really is profiting, and it doesn't sound like it is the quaint shops.

I don't know much about the Fort Area, but what I read, about historical preservation, I agree.

When I was a child, the train depot in Salem Mass(ahhhhh I remember it well, having travelled from South Hamilton with my nana to shop in Salem) was an impressive building. Torn down to make way for a parking lot. What a shame. And, it sounds like Gloucester is looking to do the same.

To me, a heartwarming story. Don't know the Dr. but consider his patients truly have been gifted, and I don't mean an article of baby products.A gift from the giver, of understanding and compassion.
