So... any other Arabs in here?

I used to be boldly proud of my heritage. My friends thought it was cool, too.
And then 9-11 happened.
I think it's funny that most people see racism as purely a white/black/Hispanic thing.
I have friends who are Sikhs, Russians, and Persians and they have ALL felt the sting of discrimination.
I see ANY form of bigotry as wrong.

And I don't necessarily agree with the whole "where you were raised" rationalization because I was raised in a rural, all-white, Southern town (rampant with racism) and I have been vehemently opposed to these attitudes since I was a young child. It never made sense to me, on any level.

Perhaps we are subconsciously programmed to automatically notice someone who is very different from ourselves in appearance, but if we ever JUDGE anything about that person based on their appearance, then we have crossed a line.

If you jump to ANY conclusions about me based on appearances (my ethnicity, my social status, my income, my political preference, or even my weight), then you are equally guilty. You don't know me & you don't know my heart.
Bigotry takes ALL forms.
Racism is not the "worst" form of discrimination; it's just the least socially acceptable.

I get what you're saying here.

Our church -- Healing Place Church (www.healingplacechurch.org) -- does a pretty good job, too, but we are always looking for new, creative ways to take the Church outside the walls. We strive to take the Church to the people and to make it relevant to them on a day-to-day basis. We have some pretty awesome ministries that do this, but even more, it is an attitude of the HEART that makes up the very fabric of our church.
I LOVE that about HPC!
I think we could be considered a "Googlish" church. =)
Of course (just as with Google), there's always room for improvement.

What a humbling, honest, baring of your soul.

I can so relate right now.
I'm going to admit something... I did not join your "Raggamuffin Top Challenge," because when you have struggled with a serious weight issue (50+ pounds) for the greater part of your life (as I have), you become slightly gun-shy of such things.
I kept thinking, "I don't want to put myself out there; I'll wait until my weight is lower."
God has been showing me what a mistake that truly is.

He doesn't want to wait til we deem ourselves "perfect" and "ready" for Him to use us for His glory.
He wants us now, warts and all.
My faith in the last few months has grown exponentially as I have witnessed His undeserved grace in my life.

Today, I stepped on the scale and I have lost 60 pounds since February.
Not by MY strength or power -- Only by His.
And God is using my struggle AND my success for His glory!

I agree.
"It's not about you" and "Get over yourself" have become my life's motto over the past year. I'm far from "finished," and I'll never be perfect, but that no longer matters. I just want to live this imperfect life for Him in any way He sees fit.

Hardly.
Not to sound too defensive, but I DO defend Christian rap music and I DO love a jammin' worship session and I DO play video games and I was in the military for 6 years, so it ain't like I've never heard it (or said it, for that matter).

Truly, my complaint is not in the "trying to relate to the world" department; for those arguments could also be applied to modern Christian rock music and Christian rap and concerts, etc.
I have NO PROBLEM with using those venues to reach people who ordinarily might shun a "traditional" church setting.

The problem lies in the use of a sexual image to draw interest.
I mean, REALLY?
That's ok with you?
Carole's right; we are talking about GENITALIA here!
Is nothing sacred anymore?
What's next? Will we someday have "Christian strip clubs" where we preach while men are being serviced? I mean, hey, talk about reaching a whole new audience! That'd be one way to do it!

I'm sorry to be crass, but Carole and I both participate in strip club outreach and prostitution outreach and I can't imagine ANY circumstance where I will EVER think it's ok to use female genitalia to get attention -- no matter how casual or cliche it might become.
I agree that this is not acceptable. It's offensive and it's unnecessary.
Love DOES take guts -- the guts to stand up (against the majority) and say, "I don't agree with this."

When Christian rock artists were first coming on the scene, they were LAMBASTED for trying to mimic secular music.
Many of the things y'all are saying here about this are exactly the kinds of things that were said about pop and rock Christian artists.
I listen to Christian rap (LeCrae, GRITS); does that make me a poser? No; I happen to like rap music and I just think listening to rap that honors God is better than rap that glorifies smoking dope or raping women.

I don't think this "Guitar Praise" idea is earth-shattering or anything; honestly, I don't see myself ever buying it. I'm not promoting this product, per se.
But I don't like the hypocrisy of saying this is lame when SOOO many other things (that we now take for granted) came from SECULAR influences.

Christian blogs
Christian websites
Christian tattoos
T-Shirts with catchy "Christian" messages
Christian rock concerts
Veggie Tales
Didn't ALL of these start out with secular models? I'm just sayin'.

Give me a break.
I bet half the people who bashed this idea have absolutely NO problem with the real deal -- Guitar Hero -- and wouldn't bat an eyelash if their kids brought it home.
But, if someone wants to use even this to glorify God, it's suddenly lame? Nice double standard.

Modern Christian praise and worship ---> cheap imitation of rock music or a new and innovative way to worship?

You know, it has actually been medically documented that men have hormonal fluctuations just like women do. Sure they are on a much smaller scale, but any woman who's been married for any length of time will testify to the fact that men definitely have PMS occasionally.

So, don't dwell on it. Don't beat yourself up.
Just get some Chunky Monkey or treat yourself to a mani/pedi :D and this, too, shall pass.
