Robert Barron

Thank you for actually reading "The Passover
Plot". I read it over 30 years ago and have been advised many times to
not read it or that it was dangerous and not a book that i should read
or consider. This advise came from evangelical Christian ministers and
Catholic priests who admitted that they never read the book.

I enjoyed the book and found that it did not shake my faith in Jesus Christ.

I accepted "the Passover Plot" as a theoretical exercise which provided
tremendous exposure to scripture. This theoretical position of a very
learned man ( Hugh Schonfield) who was raised as a Jew, converted to
Catholicism, became an ordained priest and finally left the priesthood
to become a religious historian was presented as a theory throughout and
he did not proselytize for agnosticism or atheism. My take away was
to think critically about the bible as with all other things in life and
try to extract as much truth as possible from every text.

I have not read yet "How Jesus became God" so I can not comment on the
intent of this author but i did not ever feel that "The Passover Plot"
was meant to shake my faith. I wonder if you might benefit from a re
read of it and consider that the author seems to be asking you to
consider his postulated theory of "son of man" vise "son of God" as a
vehicle to explore Judaism of the first century AD, the unnamed disciple
and much more in the scriptures. I never considered that I was being
asked to believe the theory as fact but only as a vehicle for scriptural
exploration. Mr Schonfield, as I recall, halfway through the book
states that he is "not trying to persuade you to give up any of your
believe in the greatest man who ever lived in 2000 years".

So my objection seems to be that you included "The Passover Plot" in with
what might be screeds from virulent agnostics and atheists.

Re: Does the Generosity of Black Americans Explain the Racial Wealth Gap?

I am offended by the comparisons in this article. "Blacks" compared to "whites". I must assume that "whites" refers to caucasians. Why not compare "blacks" to "Hispanics" and "Asians" as provided in the Pew report? Why not consider the predominant resident locals of blacks in comparison to other ethnicity s to try to understand if that had an impact (Detroit?) I would bet that a broader comparison would help answer some of the questions and/or raise other questions in this field.

The comparisons imply racism and baiting on the authors part.

Re: http://today.yougov.com/news/2012/10/10/only-25-americans-think-they-are-47/

And this week the new unemployment applications magically dropped to the lowest number in 4 years. That was the main stream media headline. They count on the public being uninformed and gullible.

SEEMS THAT CALIFORNIA DID NOT GET THEIR NUMBERS IN TO THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR YET!

But the DOL and the MSM didn't provide any asterisk explaining the number.

(removed)

Re: http://today.yougov.com/news/2012/10/10/only-25-americans-think-they-are-47/

Please reflect on the enormous increase in free cell phones under Obama and the fact that those that pay cell phone bills are paying for the free ones (check out the charge on your bill) as well as the practice that if you recruit new persons for free cell phones you get an increase in free monthly minutes over and above the 250 supplied. Also seems that one of the suppliers of free cell phones is a billionaire and is a big Obama supporter.
The video of the Cleveland women screaming about free cell phones calls them "Obama phones" and the web site for these phones had Obama's picture prominent on it's home page until the picture was removed right after the Cleveland screaming women video went viral.

Re: http://today.yougov.com/news/2012/10/10/only-25-americans-think-they-are-47/

Point is johnny, Romney did not say that he does not care about the welfare of those in the 47% but that many of their votes have been bought and paid for and his efforts at persuading voters in this group would not be very rewarding. Did you ever hear of the use of "walk around money" as practiced in south Chicago and parts of Philadelphia or the increase in the number of free Obama cell phones to 15 million and the 20 million increase in food stamp recipiants?

True that there are some in the 47% that want to improve themselves but the effort of the Obama administration is to lock them in, intentionally or not, with "walk around money". It would not be productive to chase those votes unless you can pass out "walk around money". It didn't work with the President Johnson war on poverty- great society and it has not worked for Obama. They need jobs not 99 weeks of unemployment payments to "pursue their dreams of being artists and poets"- Nancy Pelosi

I assume that you can not respond with similar Obama examples of the anecdotes that I presented showing Mitt Romney's compassion for his fellow man. (not spin and I will be glad to post newspaper article links if you can not get them from Google).

Re: http://today.yougov.com/news/2012/10/10/only-25-americans-think-they-are-47/

This author can't get his percentages straight from the beginning. Mitt Romney said that 47% of employees DO NOT pay any federal income tax (true) but the author states in the beginning that "47% of households DO pay federal income tax". Later, the author states that about "54% of households pay federal income tax" . I do not believe that Mitt Romney was referring to "households" but individuals and the percentages add up to 101% which is criminal in an article referencing so many mathematical arguments .

It would be refreshing if this author, and many other notably uniformed would take the time to research Mitt Romney's statement. He did not originate it. I refer you to page 287 of his 2010 published book "No Apology" and quote:
"First, however, there are people who correctly presume that they will get more money from the government if it is run by Democrats. I understand these kinds of Democrats very well. Adam Lerrick of The American Enterprise Institute calculated for The Wall Street Journal that under candidate Obama's tax plan, 49 percent of all Americans will pay no income tax. Added to that number are another 11 percent who would pay federal income tax of less than 5 percent of their income. So for 60 percent of Americans, spending restraint and and lower taxes championed by Republicans may not mean a great deal to them personally--at least in the short term, even though lower taxes promote economic growth, good jobs and higher incomes in the long term."

Here is the essence of the infamous 47% statement that was so maligned by a media that does not take the time to research anything. All, including most at Fox, jumped on the 47% as a gaff. Romney was pointing out to donors that he felt that he could not focus on the 47% who do not pay any federal income tax because many of them will not vote and are already persuaded by the Democrat largess. Romney is saying that he has to focus on capturing most of the remaining 53% (or 40% who pay more than 5% federal income tax). He was speaking to donors about how he would apply their donations to his campaign in a rational way not how he would treat American citizens if elected. Yet everyone in the media and many citizens have fallen for the distortion because it lines up with the Obama campaign effort to paint Romney as an uncaring rich guy. Sorry, but an uncaring rich guy does not close down Bain Capital in Boston and move it's employees to New York city to search successfully for the abducted 14 year old daughter of the NYC Bain Capital manager or spend days with a terminally ill 14 year old boy to help him write his will. I challenge anyone to provide an anecdote from Barack Obama's background that comes close to the empathy shown by Mitt Romney above.

This author seems to like to conflate payroll taxes and federal income taxes as do so many liberals. Social Security and Medicare payroll deductions are not taxes in that they are premiums paid into these programs with the promise of services/payments when sick or retired. They are not a tax any more then an annuity or an health insurance plan payment is a tax. I am not on the government dole by virtue of collecting these payments from the government. I paid into these programs and would gladly (considering the mismanagement) retrieve my payments back with interest and take care of myself but I did not get a say about that. The old saw that you get all your money out of Social Security in the first few years is false in that it ignores the interest which would accumulate if I kept it myself in the bank and it would be considerable. But then, maybe we should refer the question of if Payroll deductions are taxes to Justice Roberts.

Re: Obama campaign files suit over ‘voter-foreclosure’ plans

No virus found in this outgoing message.
Checked by AVG - http://www.avg.com
Version: 8.0.169 / Virus Database: 270.7.1/1686 - Release Date: 9/23/2008 7:38 AM

Re: Obama campaign files suit over ‘voter-foreclosure’ plans

Rayne1
It seems that most of my post got lost in the ether.
