There has been fighting at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for almost as long as it has existed (about 1300 years give or take) and usually among the compeating camps Greek, Armenian and Latin.

Decades later and it is not really certain that Marilyn Monroe "committed suicide" or "took an over dose". One has to be skeptical that Ms Palfrey clearly "committed suicide". It's still very convenient to have her out of the way.

In truth it is a form of theft, though not one recognized by the powers that be who are the very folk getting rich off the abuse of the system. If one of my neighbors gets himself a gun and goes to one of the nearby "urban homesteaders" and relieves them of some of their wealth, he may be arrested, charged, convicted and serve time. But not the country club boys who decide every couple decades or so that they can hoodwink the public at large by suspending reality (in this case the Glass-Steagall act), selling subprime loans to person who are only steps away from public housing, then ride a bubble and pocket the gain, then cry bloody murder when it all falls apart, and get their bought and paid for representatives to bail them out and leave their country men to suffer.

The problem with Bernanke is that he is short sighted; yes a banking crisis could be bad for the country, but a housing crisis could be just as bad if not more so; "If Americans were French, there would be rioting in the streets.

As you read the article, you really have to ask yourself: if she organizes and runs her campaign like this, do you really want her in the White House? Nobody in charge, people out of their element, flavor of the day, keep changing the goal post, favoring big states over small states, an unwillingness to caucus. We've come very close to Bush III and she was a democrat.

The time is long since past when we should be tolerating closeted politicians. The history of closeted politicians has been, on the whole, bad for glbt. Sen. McCarthy, Roy Cohn, etc., not to mention all those Log Cabin boys aiding and abetting virulent homophobes in the House and the Senate.

What Mr. Bittman fails to mention is the government's 75 year cheap food policy which has only encouraged the over consumption of meat, the industrialization of agriculture and the loss of local production. Now that market forces have crept into food we already hear of people not being able to afford to eat as they did. Price may well become the way to cut meat consumption, etc.

The interesting thing about the Times article is that they were quick to name the folk on the list to be snubbed but coy about naming those in charge of drawing up the list and presumably its enforcement. As John notes, at this point the Clintons are old news and the favor that anyone might want comes from people closer to the next White House.
