Wobei, ein Tripod sollte doch mechanisch stabil sein, wozu ist da überhaupt eine Seilsicherung nötig, um das ganze im Gleichgewicht zu halten? Muß die Polizei denn mit so vermurksten Konstruktionen rechnen, was ist mit der Eigenverantwortung der illegalen Errichter?

Ein durchhängendes Seil kann wohl kaum einen Tripod im Gleichgewicht halten. Wenn da Kräfte wirken, müßte es gespannt sein, es sei denn, es wäre so extrem lang (einen Kilometer oder so), daß das Eigengewicht eine Rolle spielt. Also, die Darstellung kann so nicht stimmen. Dürfte interessant sein, was der Gutachter dazu sagt.

So much for the view from California, the most progressive state in the US. Where the percentage of African American people (5,8) is below the national average (12,7), weirdly. Maybe because poor people can't really afford to live there.

Right. Rush Limbaugh, may he rest in hell, had been unleashed by the repeal of the Fairness Docrine in 1987. And Gingrich's total war against Dems started in 1989, when he became House minority whip. So, the polarisation began in the late 80s, not late 90s.

Reminds of Obama's stimulus act of 2009 (ARRA). Krugman had argued for a bigger bill, but soon settled with the smaller one. He never really held centrists responsible for being cheap. He's the Charlie Brown of economists, getting fooled time and again.

Good point. But Krugman calls them centrists, because he's closer to them than to progressives. I can't remember Prof K ever endorsing any real left winger. That he complains about centrists now is quite hypocritical.

Well, so you didn't understand the story. Australia got exactly what they wanted and ordered. And the reason for delays is that large parts of the boats have to be built down under, despite the industry there lacking the necessary exoerience. Scott Morrison cancelled the project because he had a change of mind, wants to act more aggressive versus China. That's not France's fault at all.

It's not Sweden that's pulling the levers in the EU, but France. And that's not a nation that takes it nicely when it gets betrayed by partners. Their revenge will be more subtle than a restructuring of the EU's trade policy, but it will hurt. Let's keep an eye on Australian exports to the EU, it won't be a surprise if they decrease because of new bureaucratic hurdles.

Of course this won't torpedoe talks about a trade deal. France will simply add provisions to the pact that will make it unacceptable for Australia. You don't cross that nation and get away unharmed. Scott Morrison made a serious mistake by grandstanding at France's expense instead of seeking a mutually accrptable solution. And don't get me started on Joe Biden. It's the third time in 8 months that he runs roughshod over the Europeans. Where's the big difference to Trump? What a disapointment, that old jerk.
