It kills me how these assholes continue to hold up the Canadian health care sytem as the socialist boogieman. There are problems with any health care system. There are sometimes waiting lines if you need something like, oh say, knee surgery. It sucks to have to wait a couple of months while you hobble around. It happened to me and 39 years later, I'm still here and walking around limp free thank you very much. Meanwhile while you are waiting, they are taking care of really life-threatening things like open heart surgery and removing cancerous brain tumors and no family gets fucking bankrupted at the end. Our doctors are as highly trained as any in the world and these fucking liars and scare-mongers can kiss my ass.

I'll have a nice pint, please. I apologize if anybody has mentioned him before, but this is in honor of Harry Patch, the last remaining UK veteran of the 1st world war, who died July 25th at the age of 111. He was a humble man who saw horrors that few of us could comprehend.

He died a pacifist. The band Radiohead was working on a song in tribute to him before he died. It's truly moving and can be downloaded at their website. Have a good weekend people.

I remember when I landed in Amsterdam at the very beginning of my big European adventure in late '77. I was completely jet-lagged and found myself a room. I pulled my little transistor radio out of my backpack and started scanning through the local radio stations for something to listen to. The very first song I heard was by Mink DeVille and did it ever sound good. The name of the song escapes me right now. RIP Willy. Thanks for the memories.

Certainly, some might consider that to be a rather alarmist stretch.

I certainly hope so, because speaking as a Canadian, the thought of sharing a border with a huge fascist regime scares the shit out of me. If the tanks started rolling in, I'm certain we would put up a spirited defense but would inevitably be crushed in the end. I suppose that sounds a little melodramatic.

I remember being glued to the TV screen with my parents and brother as Walter Cronkite gave the play-by-play of the moon landing. We all had butterflies and could not contain our excitement. Gawd, I was only sixteen years old.

There will never be another like him. R.I.P Walter. You did good.

Hah! Believe it or not I've never tried it. I think it has it's origins in Newfoundland and you can easily buy it in any liquor outlet (I live in Western Canada), but I've never actually tasted it.
