While I use my most of my veggie trimmings, I never thought to try roasting leek stems. I will next time. I had been using them in my bone broths. Same w/onion skins (I use red onions because I prefer the flavor) ever since I read that they contain a lot of quercetin.

Re: Episode 128: Best Of – Mind-Body Nutrition with Marc David

Hi Eileen,

July was a huge transition month. It freezes and reheats in my toaster oven really well. I also have frozen the parsnip/cauliflower topping since I can't always find parsnips. This works great, especially when I don't have a lot of time to put together the meal. I have also increased the amount of veggies while keeping the other measurements the same. Yum!!!

Re: RECIPE: Super Healthy Shepherd’s Pie

This recipe came out delicious. I made the following changes because of what I had on-hand:

Parsnips for the white yams (3 small steamed)
Skipped the non-dairy milk
1 tsp ea dried rosemary and dried thyme for the fresh herbs - I'd increase this by 1/2 tsp each
6 cloves garlic
Ground turkey
Coconut Secrets coconut aminos
Fresh peas

I sauted the veggies as listed, but then I dumped them into a bowl, added a little more coconut oil to the skillet, then browned the ground turkey.

I added a little more coconut oil and cooked the herbs and tomato paste in it for a few minutes. Same for the garlic.

Then I put the filling ingredients back into the skillet.

I baked for 20 minutes as listed. I would try baking a few minutes longer so the carrots would be a little softer.

I froze the leftovers. Not sure how they will reheat. I might try
making the recipe in two oven-proof containers because when saving portions stirred the up.

Very tasty. A real winner of a recipe that i will make again and again.

Re: Giveaway Time: Vitamix S30!

I'd make hummus or a nut butter...something that usually is too wasteful in my regular blender that doesn't have a screw-off base.

Re: Espagnole Sauce: My Culinary Everest

Making broth doesn't have to be a dreaded task. The Weston A. Price way is to put a couple of pounds of pastured bones into a slow cooker (I've used 8-qt and 6 3/4 qt models). Pour a couple of glugs of raw apple cider vinegar over the bones, then fill the cooker with water. Let sit as is for about an hour. Turn cooker to high and cook until surface is bubbling. Then turn down the heat to low and cook for 36 hours for beef/bison/veal bones or 24 hours for pastured chicken.

You can add carrots, celery, onions, whatever you want when you add the bones (I add mine under the bones so the veggies won't float; I use up scraps that I've frozen so I don't waste anything). You can also add a few tsps sea salt at the beginning to give your final broth better flavor.

In the final 45 mins of cooking, add fresh parsley (stems, too) for added minerals and continue cooking. When time is up, strain and throw away/compost the veggies. The meat on the bones can be eaten, although I find it usually tastes bland and a bit tough (especially the beef). Chill in containers then freeze. There is debate on whether or not to save or toss the fat that rises to the top because of the length of cooking time. Personally I use it. If you don't want to, let the broth chill anyway so that the fat will rise to the top and will solidify.

It takes a few mins to put everything into the cooker, but it is more labor-intensive to strain everything at the end.

I only use bones from animals fed species-appropriate diets such as grass/forage for beef/bison/veal (grain makes them sick which is why they need to be fed drugs throughout their lives) and bugs and scraps/organic feed for chickens. None of the animals is fed drugs or hormones, and they are all allowed to wander outside.

The bones can be used a few times, so you really get your money's worth.

If you want to be sure your final product is very gelatinous, then do not add any more water once your broth gets to simmering. Personally I don't care so much if my broth is or isn't. I just means I have to use more in recipes the thicker I let it get.

Bone broth is so yummy you'll be happy it can be frozen.

Re: Sweetly Raw: Raw Chocolate - Make Your Own! I recently got introduced to the Web site www.bulletproofexecutive.com. Dave's wife had PCOS and couldn't get pregnant. By following a high-fat, very high quality diet, they became parents of two kids through natural means. Through his podcast I found Chris Kresser, who has amazingly informative podcasts. He is very big on the gut because of his own healing journey. He's a researcher/accupuncturist.

Amy, please receive this in the highest Light, you have amazing recipes, but so much of it is very heavy on grains and nuts and not so much nutrient-dense meals. Through Chris and Dave, I learned that going gluten-free often isn't enough when people have damaged guts. The sign of a damaged gut is when you have issues with food. Chris said in a recently listened to podcast that food allergies/insensitivities are a sign of a damaged gut.

Do you eat pastured eggs not fed soy? Do you eat 100% grass-fed/grass-finished meats?

Do you eat bone broths?

Do you eat pastured butter (or ghee if lactose intolerant)?

High-quality fats are hugely important, especially for little kids. Oils, especially heated, such as canola, grapeseed, sunflower, safflower are highly toxic.

And what about chemicals in your environment? You'd be amazed what the body absorbs through the skin and hair.

Another source is the Weston A. Price foundation. I've heard they have a formula substitute

You are such a loving mom, Amy, and you will find a way through this journey. I look forward to reading of your success and hearing that you and your family are thriving.

P.S. I'm not a medical professional, but I read a lot.

Re: Franny’s Toasted Almond Gelato

I haven't used xanthan gum in ice cream, but I have used 1 tbl gelatin powder (www.amazon.com/Great-Lakes-... from grass-fed beef, and about 1/2 tbl sunflower lecithin (www.bluemountainorganics.co... that I buzz for a minute in my Vitamix with whatever base I am using (coconut milk or raw milk), raw honey, vanilla, flavor extracts (www.therawfoodworld.com/ind..., and whatever other flavor I want. I might add 2-4 raw egg yolks in addition to the gelatin powder and lecithin to the blender as well. I refrigerate in a covered bowl overnight. I'll usually end up with a very thick and firm pudding that takes less than 10 mins to churn in my Cuisinart ice cream maker. Ohmygosh the taste and texture are out of this world. And a little is very satisfying because of the low amount of sweetener I use (maybe 1/3 c?) and high fat. You don't have to sacrifice your health to eat real food.

Re: How to Make Raw Garlic Powder

Brilliant!!!

Re: Kristen’s Raw 33rd Awesome Giveaway – Free Raw Vegan Recipe Ebooks

Beatles.

Re: Raw Recipe: BFF Kelp Noodles (Plus Awesome Variations!)

Brilliant way to prepare kelp noodles. I also have been put off them by their crunchy texture, yet I love fermented kraut. I'll give them a try again using your method.

I am also a fan of the Raw Food World so much that I am a lifetime Benefits member so I get 14.5% off of my orders. I wonder why their price for kelp noodles is so high when bought through Amazon, but more than half Amazon's price when bought directly at TRFW... Then there is their 7% discount to everyone even on their monthly at-cost specials.

Re: How to make your own Detoxifying Toothpaste, and details on my annual trip to Peru

Thank you for taking the time to create informative videos such as this, Daniel. I'd appreciate hearing more about your dental routine. I'm particularly interested in learning how to re-mineralize my teeth. Perhaps this step is enough? I have used them on cooked food once plated. My favorite way is to use the oils is in salad dressing.

Mr. Peskin gave me the idea of putting together my own oil blends. What Flora Health doesn't produce, I buy from Mountain Rose Herbs. MRH often lists the percentage of Omegas an oil contains.

Yes Udo's contains evening primrose oil. I buy it from MRH.

I've found the best prices and selection for Flora Health's oils at www.iherb.com. I'm grateful that someone recommended this company because I get an additional 8% off when I place an order for over $120 plus free shipping for orders over, I think, $40.

I've no idea if this is related, but I recently learned that nut and seeds are estrogenic, and I'm wondering if the years of using these oils sometimes twice a day is why I have grown uterine fibroids. Isn't it fun trying to figure out how best to nourish our bodies?

Re: Raw Model - The Lifestyle for Beauty, Energy, and Mental Clarity: The Anthony Anderson Show

Where on Earth do you find the time to do all you do, and do it so well?!?! Very happy for you in your new endeavor.

Re: Recipe & Review: Lightly Onion Bread & Farmhouse Culture Sauerkraut

Do you soak the nuts and seeds for this recipe? I pre-soak and dehydrate all of my nuts. I'm new to dehydrating and haven't done anything more than that, so I wonder if in this case I'd need to soak everything a second time.

Re: Recipe & Review: Lightly Onion Bread & Farmhouse Culture Sauerkraut

This looks delicious. Do you soak the nuts to soften them, to remove the phytic acid, or both?

Re: A question about the Greenhouse Dome...

Congratulations Anthony!
