Hah.

But the new one will be just as easy as the hellhound which was a dream. My builder gave me crap because I built those. "Why do you always give me the hard stuff?" Cuz I am mean heh.

Re: 40K RUMORS: March "Battle Missions" Releases

Those old Chimeras are crap - I had someone else build them for me for a client as I just didn't have the time to glue the hell out of my hand and all those damned little wheels.

And hooray for new plastics. I don't play ven dreads so I don't care too much, but I have always wanted to play the killa kan ork army and now I can hah without having to pin/green stuff the metal jerks together.

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

If you have toxin sacs you attacks count as poisoned, thus your bone swords wound on a 4+ and if your strength is the same or higher you can reroll the failed wounds. They don't have special weapons anymore, more like they just have upgraded base attacks. They don't get extra attacks for having two ccw as they don't have what we consider ccw in other armies.

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

That is where the 60 points for doing other stuff can be easily found. And something I might do anyway as I feel a spore might be much better for the zoats and then I can look at dropping frag spines and adrenal glands on the fexes to get more then just sporing the zoats and making my tervigons a bit more interesting.

It is a definite thought and something easy to do :).

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

Where are you getting the lash whips from? Genestealers outflank, have fleet, and move through cover. They can get to places the other bigger lash whip bugs etc can't faster. Meaning the lash whip isn't going to get there fast enough. Mix this in with having a bunch of genestealers means there is a good chance your lash whip guy won't get into base to base, meaning he can't assault the squad. You have to try and touch as many models as you can with the squad you are assaulting, and with all your abilities to roll extra and guarantee that 6, you will cover an opponent pretty well, thus leaving your big lash whip guys behind.

You could always wait until you can assault fully, but that means you will get shot again and we all know what bolters do to a squad of genestealers. Dakka dakka dakka, dead dead dead

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

One might stay a mawloc and another might go into a trygon prime. I like the model and I have points I can drop and fiddle around with :).

Plus he can be nicknamed Optimus Prime hah.

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

What will shoot them at range that you won't be shooting at the big boys? I know you can shoot a lot of missiles, but what armies are taking 6+ missiles to pop a Tervigon right away?

IG yes but they hit half the time so that is a bit easier (I know about orders, so that can change). Also if you are shooting them, then you are not shooting the other stuff running around.

Yes bolters will kill my gaunts, but why would I put them near anything that can get them very reliably without a cover save etc?

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

They don't have grenades, so a smart opponent will just sit in cover as they charge in. You opponent goes first, deals with your 5+ armor and you lose a bunch of guys.

It is the issue why they are just not that good anymore. Lack of grenades just sucks no matter how well you roll with move through cover. It is the weakness of most of the Daemons (except slaanesh). Just move into cover and wait for them, since this style army is an assault army and they have to get to you do their "work".

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

If Deathleaper is useful, he comes out in a place no one can see him, then hides again. He doesn't have to attack at all, especially if he is useful. Trust me, when playing marines who will start taking Librarians even more, he will earn you his points back.

Versus orks or other armies, you might have wasted a few points. If he can get out, hidden behind something and then gets a charge or lootas you win hah.

But that is the one place I could look at dropping and from there either look at adding an alpha warrior for the Hive Guard unit or somewhere else. Maybe a cheap warrior block too. Lots of different things to add.

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

The problem with a lot of the choices is that they don't have grenades. See a bunch of nids coming at you, run into some terrain. You will go first, deal with their power armor and move along.

None of the basic troopers have any way to really get into someone who has decided to hide behind a rock. I would love Hormagaunts if they could be pooped out, had grenades, and were still beasts. Since they don't have any of those options, it is Tervigons and termagaunts all the way.

If your opponent is going first, hide the poop machine behind the Tyrant and some fexes. It will hopefully get two rounds of pooping, your troops jump up to 6 and you are good to go. You could also outflank one of the jerks, have him run from the side somewhere and start pooping after everything else has popped up and said hi too.

Re: Goatboy - My Tyranids List and What I Hope It Does

Hahaha - I played versus another nid player and the jerk crapped out all his extra termagaunts by turn 2. The army made me excited enough to start to write about it and there are still some good thoughts in there. Your leadership is now 7 and mine is 10 - roll that d6 better hope you always hit a 6 and i roll low.

That is what he is there for - to let your zots and other powers always go off. The old ability of taking a Daemon Hunter (not sure if it is witch or daemon) hood is not nearly as good especially when their leadership is 7. Death leaper doesn't have to show up near them, he can go hide elsewhere and never get shot as he keeps that psyker down :). That is where his ability really shines.

Yeah his rending is nice, but he isn't a smash you in the face type of unit, he is a much smarter, slow debuff your opponent unit. A+ by GW that it initially went over my head.

Re: Goatboy's 40k Thoughts: 2nd Opinion on Nids

It is a large str 6 template. It is always str 6 so lets say you are playing against a meq based IG army (one of the better options). If they are packed together to try and concentrate fire, you have a chance of hitting 2, maybe 3 when you pop up. Armor on the butt is normally 10 for most vehicles so you have a 50% chance to do something. That is still pretty good when you don't have to roll to hit etc. Get death leaper in there and you can start targetting where you need to pop up later too.

Plus, 6 wounds is still hard to deal with, without a ton of firepower. You have to put in so many shots to hope to bring it down reliably. And that leaves your swarm lord to get closer and bring the pain as needed.

Re: Goatboy's 40k Thoughts: 2nd Opinion on Nids

Hehe - if people read my articles beyond giving me crap, they would see this is just initial thought. Things always change as the "gasp" metagame churns and people start to figure out what works.

But yeah, amazing how actually getting the real rule book and seeing how games and units interact in the real world helps out a lot. Means we don't make mistakes on how things are supposed to work.

And I am only a half human half goat boy for gosh sacks. We all make mistakes heh.

Re: Goatboy's 40k Thoughts: 2nd Opinion on Nids

And like I said in the beginning of all my reviews, this was just a what I see right away. After discussion with local players, reading other information and finally seeing the codex, I came out with changes in what I believe are some of the better options.

Of course I am not always right, nor am I the grand master of plastic guys and dice rolling. These are just thoughts on the new codex. You can tell which ones I want to build and which ones I don't. I am also letting people get a chance to think of what they might purchase instead of just buying a bunch of crap that might not work for them the way they want it.

I think this codex is pretty successful and is showing GW is going into new and different directions on the army list and hopefully future ones. This gives me hope that the new Blood Angels will be pretty neat and different enough from marines to be something worth wile to play and paint up a bunch of red jerk offs.

I thought Space Wolves was a really nice codex and with the FAQ it creates some changes in my own reviews for Wolf Scouts and other choices in the book too. I am just hoping GW keeps going down this road and we keep getting better and cooler armies. Here is hoping that Necrons will be bad ass too :).

Re: Goatboy's 40k Thoughts: 2nd Opinion on Nids

They are not broken, they are just good. And if you are wasting your str 8 shots at them and not the MC that is running at you, then you have problems.

The army is all about threat priority and figuring out what is needed to be taken out first and what is needed to be taken out next. Makes for a much more, tactical set up, as each unit has a different threat level and value to your army etc. As it will take 3 str 8 shots to hopefully kill one Zonathrope, where those 3 shots could take off 3 wounds off a tyrant, mawloc, or a trygon.

Choices is what makes the game fun and a nail bitter.

Re: Goatboy's 40k Thoughts: 2nd Opinion on Nids

Oh I think Mawlocs are one of the key heavy slots. Just to help deal with Mech etc and being a pain in the butt. Certain armies don't care about them though, so will see. I just used what I had with me and what was on the old Carnifex.

I've been building nid lists lately and I still might run one brood of fexes in either a venom cannon brood or some kind of dakka brood. It is still a ton of shots and attacks if they get near something. JoTWW still makes me a sad panda though :(

Re: Goatboy's 40k Thoughts: Setup and Go!

The boxes are small, but that is the idea of where you need to be. So sarcasm is free eh?

Re: Goatboy's 40k Thoughts: Setup and Go!

Because an assault army needs all of its assault elements there to get at you. If you only have two elements there, it is pretty easy to take that out quickly. Also versus a shootie heavy army, moving closer just means flamer/rapid fire/ etc damage as they move out from their table edge.

And thanks, I plan on more of these sort of things as I dissect more armies in general. I know the IG push has been annoying, and I am hoping to start to break into some other armies that are waiting on codex love. Enough Chaos for sure haha.

Re: Goatboy's 40k Thoughts: I Want a New Army!

I played with them when I got back into the game. I went for an army that was 1) good 2) low model count 3) neat looking. Which nids fit very well.

And yes it was a nidzilla list that I played and had fun with. I always liked orks, which as you know Kings is one of the main armies I played with back in the day. Followed with CSM. Those were always my armies, and I chose nids as I waited for the books to come out. Thus the change over to dif armies as they came out.

Have I gone to IG? Or made a full Marine army yet? I know I played Daemons, but that was due to liking the models etc. So yeah, so there. =P
