I'd never even bothered trying to watch streaming TV shows... but I can see the appeal for certain folks.. It makes total sense for the networks to do it themselves, I agree.. that'll be the future but is sure is WEIRD that it's not here already. As you pointed out it's those licensing fees

Re: Microsoft Announces Bing, Makes Its First Serious Challenge to Google’s Dominance

Great screenshot & comparison analysis! You've got a solid outlook on Bing's viability, I think. It does look like it could give the big G a run for it's money which is definitely a GOOD thing, just for search in general. I miss having a few competitive search engines to choose from if one doesn't give me what I wanted to see. I love the shopping/product features and I think that'll come in super handy.

Thanks for going as in depth as you can given the fact that it's not launched yet :)

Re: Disney Releases “Bolt” Movie Trailer

"A manky old cat"... lol whaa?? I'm not quite sure what that means.. However the whole dog w/ double identity thing is interesting I guess. I do think it LOOKS good (eyecandy wise).. Just haven't been really captivated by the whole digital animation thing yet unless it's in a video game. Maybe this'll change things tho :)

Re: Matt Damon Shows Us How To Dress For Summer In “The Informant”

"I wouldn't let my daughter go anywhere near this guy if he was at the local pool"

Oh that's golden!!! There's a stigma that goes with being online "too much", same with watching "too much" TV. I doubt the polls are as accurate as we might hope because people tend to answer those things based on how they want to appear rather than how they actually are behaving.

I'm not shocked by the numbers but at least people are admitting they use the net a bit more, that's a start. Notice that they'd rather IM than call their friends? Interesting... ;-)

They're buying a lot more than they think to count, I'd wager. After all, many of the online games (such as Xbox Live and WoW) count, as do ringtones and MP3s... they probably just aren't thinking of it as an "internet purchase" because it's so heavily integrated into their lives.

Excellent article, once again!

Wolf Nibori's last blog post..History is Not a Clock (Please Rewind)

Re: Professional Poetry?

Yes, maybe the gratification isn't instant enough.. like a movie is supposed to do that or a book, music, etc.. poetry seems to take more time to digest.. and it also seems to work best if you have someone to discuss it with (kind of like songs)

Re: Professional Poetry?

I know this is an older post, but yeah I do think that stinks that poetry's not considered something .. "consumable" by your average person (unless you count lyrics in songs which are poetry, but set to music).. Maybe eventually it'll have a resurgence if people can figure out a way to use it in their daily lives somehow.. but it's certainly hard for poems to compete with books, movies, etc even though I enjoy them quite muchly :)

Re: Hell Hath No Fury Like a Vlogger Scorned

The Golden Viral Trifecta of Tube Traffic, Sean, that's what we'll call it. Don't get me wrong, they certainly have their place but when people are asked or volunteer information about themselves they get self/image conscious. Not the same as merely recording statistics. Then again, even THAT is simply what it is: statistics. The key is being able to think like Jordan and figure out what data MEANS in realistic terms.

Thanks for a terrific article :) helps sweep away the general ambiance of paranoia that seems to pervade blogs about internet entrepreneurship

Wolf Nibori's last blog post..Our Two Year Anniversary!

Re: Hell Hath No Fury Like a Vlogger Scorned

Slander? Defamation of character? Invasion of privacy? lol WOW

Then again I believe it's not actually slander or defamation unless it's not true. The highly emotional style of spinning may be a gray area, though!

Sounds similar to what went on with the founder of wikipedia's girlfriend. I believe she found out they'd broken up via the site and in turn went on TV to hyper her auctioning of his stuff that he'd left with her. Crazy world. I'm sure there's legislation in the works to handle all this, though ;-)

Wolf Nibori's last blog post..Our Two Year Anniversary!

Re: CBS “On The Bubble” No More

I'm still shocked that CBS would even possibly consider ending Moonlight. Cane, too? I was thinking it was Shark that got canceled.. is that not true? When I saw this post on Happy Horror I couldn't believe my eyes. I mean we get few enough good shows dealing with scarier supernatural stuff so why end this one since it's doing so well? I just don't get it.

Re: YouTube’s New Ads: “Buzz Targeting”

I certainly think it has a chance to succeed. I understand people being resentful of advertising, but it's got to happen if they want their favorite media (entertainment OR informative) to flourish. I can handle some advertising so long as it's not just completely inane and irrelevant. Half the time the ads end up even more entertaining than the show/magazine/etc.

Wolf Nibori's last blog post..The Mist (2007) - Theater Review

Re: Google Falling Apart at the Seams; Doesn’t Appear to Care

Now, I'm admittedly a rank amateur, but what I'm wondering is: could this be a viable longterm 'strategy' for lack of a better term? I mean, if these senior people are so quick to jump ship then you find out pretty quick who's loyal and who's not in the scope of things. Not calling those who leave 'disloyal' just pointing out that their hearts may lie elsewhere rather than with Google, Inc. Also, if those start-ups prove to be successful, perhaps they're more likely to be Google-friendly and some very key and strong partnerships could be forged out of simple familiarity.

I see what the article's pointing out and it's good journalism, but at the same time this 'new era' of web-based businesses may end up redefining "good business" as we know it, right?

Wolf Nibori's last blog post..The Mist (2007) - Theater Review
