Meanwhile, I hope you have unemployment insurance or at least had, even if it's over. Your local Catholic church has parish outreach social ministry to help provide a "safety net" while looking.

I hear you.
I empathize with your wound from the rejection of your job--after 20
years--no less.

The nerve of these companies--it is CRUEL! But I want you to know that sometimes companies give lame
excuses to get someone off the payroll who may be making too much money for
their liking. Sure, they only know the tunnel vision of NOW. And you and millions like you in middle mgmt. become "history"
First, go on www.myskillsmyfuture.org and www.mynextmove.org See if you have transferable skills to a parallel or different field. Hang in there. You must have faith. Joel Osteen talks about leaving it to God and having HOPE. That means upbeat and willing to trudge through the BS of this grueling process!

Business has no conscience.

Here is what I can offer you: Resume help to make it better. Ideas and resources. Interviewing confidence. Great articles on overcoming low self esteem
and objections and obstacles--imagined or real. Don't just wait for Internet ads to call. They usually won't. They won't call. They won't call ANYbody!! They probably wouldn't call me if I was in the market, either.

ds I see.
Networking strategies.

Amen. Take time to smell the roses and enjoy your family. Life's too
short.

Let me at least email you ideas and other ideas--what field are you in and where are you?
405club@gmail.com Ask for Gloria

Re: http://www.the405club.com/post/535769726

Suzy: Please understand that you are not alone. You join thousands, if not millions, in the same boat, although it doesn't make it any less painful. Depending on where you live, please visit your local One Stop Career Center. They are free and are all over the country. Go on www.careeronestop.org or www.servicelocator.org and tap in your zip code. The counselors will assist you in your job search. Perhaps you'd like to talk to someone. See if there are any local support groups for unemployed, perhaps through church or temple or perhaps even your local library career counseling center and/or psychology dept of a nearby college. There are many like you who hate the stigma of "fired" but getting fired is more common than you realize. Some churches offer counseling therapy for free. I know, you just need a job and all will be well. But it is hard to network and outreach to others and be a part of groups, if you are feeling lousy. The greats of the world scoff at failure as being one step closer to success and many of those high achievers with prominence today, fell broke, flat on their faces many times. This is a time for faith and you owe yourself the chance to heal. Find a professional who will talk with you one-on-one to get to the heart of the matter as to what ails you. I hear your frustration and feel that when life is darkest we think we will never come up into light. I wish you well and please don't hesitate to write us again because we care! Be blessed!

Re: Study of the Day: Soon, You May Download New Skills to Your Brain - Atlantic Mobile

I've often wondered about this myself! To find out if there are any funds still available to sponsor your training, go to your local One Stop Career Center (probably same place you report for occasional mandates. Also see if the French Culinary Institute has any scholarship or grant money award such as Pell for which you might be eligible. Usually these schools do not and most people exceed income guidelines anyway, as unemployment is counted as income.
through the Dept. of Labor. If you haven't already, register in the WIA program. Funds may be depleted right now. Some centers might still have money but it's important that you register in the location of your residency. Check on www.servicelocator.org to find out. You will need to see a labor rep if they don't have money to register for the 599 benefits. While that does not guarantee more monetary benefits, it does excuse you from mandated labor dept. appointments while in school, so that you can keep the benefits coming to you. For 599, you will need a letter of acceptance from the school with start and end dates and courses to be taken. The training period must not exceed two years. Good luck to you. Enlicit their placement help and keep growing your network. Call on us again if you need job search assistance!

Re: http://www.the405club.com/post/850196193

That's why it's so important to avoid these pitfalls by staying current: read about and stay on top of trends in your field; keep your skills active by volunteering and taking advantage of free skills training for skill maintenance or upgrade in free, non profit, government One Stop Career Centers (www.servicelocator.org) all over the country; networking online and face-to-face to avoid desperation and isolation and joining job clubs for support. You may think there's nothing to gain in a group of unemployed persons, but you might be surprised in the exchange of ideas, resources, leads, it could open doors for you. At the very least, you see you are not alone and might feel less victimized. There's also power in numbers.

Re: http://www.the405club.com/post/793855597

Yes, beautifully said. Catholic church outreach ministries and various community agencies are still helping with basic life needs--no qualifiers with the church--just live in the parish community. Charity and government assistance in the form of unemployment insurance and/or public assistance social services is not the cause of or the enabling of joblessness. Les, you are right. It is the only decent thing to do if we call ourselves a humane society. Big business doesn't realize it has created a mass society of impoverished people, for which they and we will pay in the form of burgeoning taxes for public assistance, if not unemployment. Less tax infusion to support faraway wars with no discernable purpose and no end in sight, and maybe more jobs creation will save us. One way or another, we will pay. Pick your poison, Congress! Something's gotta give. What's it gonna be. boys? Unemployment insurance extensions or welfare in record-breaking numbers!

Re: http://www.the405club.com/post/769126721

Beautiful inspiring words for strength now that benefits are ending and people are frightened and worried as to how they will survive. There are counselors, workshops for interviewing, confidence skills, resume prep and so on...even computer classes in most centers. These centers are nationwide and paid for by your tax dollars. All services are free. By all means, enlist in whatever help you feel would help you. Try everything but most of all, don't isolate. It's good that you are reaching out. Job loss in these times is not personal. You look in the mirror and thousands of other laid off folks are reflected back atcha. Network, go to meetups, work that linkedin...hobnob, rub shoulders...get out there. Target agencies, organizations, corporations YOU'D like to work for. Position yourself to stay vital and ready to slide in. It sounds daunting but one day at a time...you will make your comeback!

Re: http://www.the405club.com/post/474706652

http://mmaglobal.com/main

http://mmaglobal.com/polici...

Mobile devices are wonderfully effective if you have a business or are thinking of establishing a small businesses as well as the great tips in this article for personal use. What aggravation! I feel for you and the many others whom employers toss around like rag dolls. The least they can do is offer to pay your expenses. You can assert yourself and write a civil letter seeking reimbursement and enclosing receipt of expenses copies (if you have). You have nothing to lose since they are out of town and the likelihood of your working there is slim. They can say no but at least you won't make it easy for them to do so! This way, you might feel less victimized. Just a thought. You sound like you have a lot on the ball. If you'd like to talk, know that there are sliding scale clinics (pay what you can afford according to your income which is unemployment insurance only. Your local mental health association can direct you. Get out there and mingle with other networking out of work souls. You'll find the burden is lessened when the heaviness is distributed so you all commisserate and carry each other's burdens. I wish you good luck. Keep plugging and stay in the loop. Don't allow it inside to attack your self esteem. If you want to talk with me, contact me through the 405 club. I'd be happy to respond. I am an employment counselor in non profit. God bless you and I wish you good luck finding work soon.

Re: http://www.the405club.com/post/371965621

Enjoying your diary as they are very effective, gritty, non intellectualized and no-holes-barred, no-frills, chock full of feelings that are obviously getting lots of reactions and dialog going. Today, during a workshop on resumes and job search, I met a young woman who worked for an auto dealership as an all-around office manager involved in every dept. including sales. She was just laid off from her job by her father. If this isn't an example of not taking your job layoff personally or keeping you from moving forward, I don't know what is. Laid off by her own FATHER!! He felt very bad, she said. Originally the owner of six dealerships, he's now down to two because of the bad economy. He promises to re-call her when things get better. As a parent, I'm sure he felt terribly but this is the reality and he is helping her. Things must be pretty bad to be laid off by your father! Just goes to show we can't take these things too personally. It's still apparently business.

Re: The 405 Club - HOW I FOUND HAPPINESS WRITING FOR THE 405 CLUB.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THE 405 CLUB AND MANY MORE.
