For us at GlassUp, it’s impressive to see all these competitors blow up,
for not being able to raise rounds of some $100M. I think they spend
too much. We’re 15 people, our burn rate is $80k per month, with $1M we
live a year. Resiliency is the keyword, I guess.

Non so, non sono sicuro che ci sia molto da festeggiare. D'accordo sono exit, ma anche il valore economico conta. Tutti questi undisclosed amounts non sono nello spirito startup.
Vogliamo dire che se i founder alla fine incassano meno di 100k a testa per ogni anno dedicato alla startup si tratta di un modesto risultato? Ecco, io temo che in molti casi sia così. Ma ce lo tengono nascosto.

Apparently, this calculation can be extended, isn't it? If you have zero revenue, and you expect to create a company worth 50M, and you need 2M to create that company, then you can offer 20% to the investor, because at the end he will own 20% of 50M, equal to 10M, which makes 5x ROI.
This assumes that the burn rate and the value creation are spread evenly through the years, which is true only on average.

Also the 40% rule can be extended. If this year you have revenues of 100k because you're just starting off, and next year you'll have revenues of 1M, that makes a 1,000% growth, and following the 40% rule you can burn 960% of 100k, or 960k. By extension, if you have no revenues, an acceptable burn rate should not exceed next year's revenues. Sweet.

I am a huge fan of this brain interface project. I think that once we'll be able to connect the brain to "the machine", incredible things may happen. Good or bad, I agree.
Already today I thing the cochlear implants are starting to be used not only for the deaf, but also for the blind. It is just information, that the brain can learn to feel and then associate to whatever meaning.
It will take time to understand what kind of connections to use, where to put them, what messages to send. But then it will be a new sixth sense, that we'll be able to use to perceive whatever information. I wonder what will we start with?

Le notifiche sono la prima app che abbiamo realizzato, seguita dal gobbo, dal navigatore e dal karaoke.
Per l'audio si usa il proprio auricolare, controllato anch'esso dalle app (che quindi possono avere comandi vocali).

Thanks, very interesting. But what is the conclusion? Say you are consuming the little you have, and you are not done yet, should you insist to get less money? They offer you 10M for 25%, should you ask to have just 2M for 5%? You won't get, you know that.

Yeah, I largely agree - but then again, we don't need more money or visibility right now, we just need to get the damn product out. Product is king.

As for data collection, our gross American competitor is stumbling just on that - disregarding privacy feelings.

I don't know, what they describe is the holy grail that everyone in this business is trying to achieve.
The difficult part is the optical system, if you really want to have a see-through lens, otherwise you get what Google has done already, a sort of little screen at a side.
We at GlassUp have spent the last two years trying to develop this technology, and others, like Lumus, Laster, Optinvent, are trying since much more time.
So it's not a matter of having a clever idea, you need to develop a technology that no one else has found before.

"the current version of GlassUp ($299-399) looks incredibly dorky": don't worry, we also would not be happy with that design. We have not devoted time to it yet, because first we have to fix the form and size of the optical system. Then we'll work on the looks, and we have the best eyeglass designers in the world outside our gates.
