Completely agree with this entire review. Gandalf's story was never anything more than a bumbling distraction, and Smaug was introduced very powerfully and then viciously reduced to a clown-lizard as the dwarves ran rings around him.
Everything in Mirkwood was simply incredible though. Pity it was over so quickly compared to the rest of the film.
