The two issues have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Furthermore, if the SEIU is upset about bailouts the people they demonstrating against are the ones that gave the money to the banks (Legislature & Obama). Let’s be honest about what’s going on here, the SEIU is using the public furor over AIG to garner support for their cause. And their cause is nothing more than another blow to our free market economy as the below linked article so effectively articulates:

http://online.wsj.com/artic...

Re: SEIU Throws Down the Gauntlet to O’Reilly: Walk a Day in Our Shoes

In other words, when backed into a corner with hard facts you resort to opinion, conjecture and theory. Next time you decide to enter into a debate, I suggest starting with opinion, conjecture and theory that way you won’t expose the gaping holes in your argument. I no longer have the desire or inclination to retort, it would be like climbing a mountain of diarrhea wearing only flip-flops. However, I’m sure that unemployed janitor you just fought to keep unemployed will have the time to listen to your crap.

Re: SEIU Throws Down the Gauntlet to O’Reilly: Walk a Day in Our Shoes

Thanks for taking the time to research the facts, hopefully these facts will finally prove my point to you.

Fact #1 - The janitor salary is $15 an hour
Perhaps in good times school districts have to pay $15 an hour to hire a janitor but based on the 600+ people that applied for the position, it’s painfully obvious that $15 is too much money. I mean, why not hire two janitors at $7.50 an hour, that would make the school twice as clean and give two people a job (reducing the unemployment rate).

Fact #2 - Toyota Lost $1.5 billion
Meanwhile GM lost $30.9 billion in 2008 and if it wasn’t for Government handouts would be a bankrupt company. GM has repeatedly said that if it wasn’t for it’s union financial obligations it would be a profitable company. Thanks to the union, the company is a basket case, while Toyota continues to gain market share.

P.S. sorry for the personal attack but when you attacked capitalism it was like biting the hand that feeds you and that made me mad.

Re: SEIU Throws Down the Gauntlet to O’Reilly: Walk a Day in Our Shoes

I’m afraid we completely disagree with each other. But if you took the time to understand the simple laws of supply and demand you would understand why your analysis of my janitor analogy is false. I’ll dumb-down the concept so it makes more sense. If Ohio paid one penny an hour for the position, how many people would apply? The answer is zero.

In regards to your capitalist bashing / union support, is it your opinion that Toyota is unfair to its employees and an unsafe place to work? If it wasn’t for union greed GM wouldn’t have to pay its employees upwards of $100,000 not to work.

Re: SEIU Throws Down the Gauntlet to O’Reilly: Walk a Day in Our Shoes

Truth:

I wouldn’t rely too heavily on what Buffet says. Because of his massive empire, he has to pander to whatever party is in charge. So he’ll cave on this issue when push comes to shove. Regardless, I think you and this video for that matter, fail to understand the point of O’Reilly’s statement. What he’s saying is that employment should be a product of the laws of supply and demand. When employers are forced to pay janitors more money because they’re in a union (which is supported by the Government) we erode our capitalist foundation. Janitors should be paid at the level in which both the employer and employee agree to. For example, when 700 people apply for a position to be a janitor in Ohio it’s safe to say the Government is paying too much for someone to sweep the floors. With the money they save they can hire more teachers.
