I almost always have to get my visas done in advance before traveling to most countries - no visas on arrival for me. Oh no :D And I often, in passing say to people from Europe or the US, "Oh you have it so much easier than me when it comes to travel". Your post makes it evident that this is not the case either. So thank you for providing another perspective.

I hope your Canadian aspirations become a reality soon, but given what I know of the process myself, I know the wait can be long ....

Re: Apple responds to Dash controversy with proof

How is asking the developer to say that he was in the fault so that Apple looks good a solution? Apple screwed up. It appears clear that the linked account was the one which was notified about the fraudulent activity. The Dash developer does not appear to have known about any of this till Apple took down his account. Now Apple wants him to admit that he was in the wrong and then they'll "magnanimously" restore his account? Looks like a clear case of Apple not wanting bad PR.

How does Apple consider accounts as linked? Is a credit card number enough to link accounts even if the account details are different on two accounts? That would be one of the crucial points here.

Also, how come Apple is not taking down accounts with large downloads which clearly have fake reviews? What is their rationale there?

This just feels like a PR exercise on the part of Apple because their internal bureaucracy resulted in a screw up.

Re: Apple’s response to Dash removal from App Store, request for clarification

Dean, it sounds to me as if you've never actually dealt with Apple as a developer. Apple does not give you time to work things out. They just tell you "this is the case and this is what we've done" and that is the end of that. As far as I'm aware, you generally have no recourse to anything at that point except perhaps an appeal in the case of app reviews.

So no, I don't think the developer jumped the gun. They did the only thing they could (and the only thing that seems to have worked in the past) when you get arbitrary decisions from Apple.

I'm not saying that the developer is right or that Apple is wrong since I don't know the data which led to this decision. But to say that the developer going public is what prompted Apple to make a quick decision would be totally wrong. Apple had already made the decision.

Re: Siri says WWDC will be June 13-June 17

I just got a mail from Apple saying the same thing. Are they announcing WWDC a bit early this year?

Re: An Anti-Torture Logo That Cleverly Communicates Across Three Cultures

Both the title of the article and the image provided are misleading. There are no three languages in the logo provided. The logo is just for two languages - English and Tamil. If you check the design studio's website, you'll notice that they have a *separate* logo for English and Sinhalese.

So the provided logo definitely does not communicate across three cultures.

Re: Why Swift might be the new BASIC

Definitely give the Swift videos from the WWDC sessions a look if you're interested in delving into Swift. The sessions cover some interesting aspects that the book didn't - at least the first 40 pages I went through for the overview :)

Plus, the sessions make some concepts that the book glosses over more clear.

Re: Why Swift might be the new BASIC

He's being literal :) You can download a chapter of the book as a playground which you can simply load in Xcode and be able to work interactively with the code.

One point of note, the iBook says "Open this chapter as a playground" but you won't see a way to do that. In reality, you have to download the chapter as a playground from the pre-release documentation on the Apple developer site.

Re: Why I’m Hosting Culture Kitchen

Really love what you're doing and the reasons you do it for :) We (my wife and I) wanted to attend when we first heard about it but unfortunately, the timing wasn't right for us :( We'll hope to attend when you next have another such gathering.

Re: The Perfect Nokia Multimedia Duos is in Zeem’s Hands

Ah, thanks for the info :) I might have to go through that process soon. Have you lived as a Muslim and seen that all Muslims in the world are terrorists? Just as you have your experiences to draw upon to count for the Jewish people, I have my experiences to account for Muslims. Nobody ever told me to kill anybody else - whether Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Zoroastrian, or whatever. So how did you obtain these FACTS of yours? I'm interested, really :)

Re: The Perfect Nokia Multimedia Duos is in Zeem’s Hands

I'm actually interested to hear all about the TRC troubles and the headaches you went through. Is this normal for any communications item that is couriered to Sri Lanka? Or just this particular one?

Re: Video: Son of Hamas founder says moderate Islam doesn’t exist

It's all very well to interpret facts to suit your own needs and to quote the people who serve your own ideologies but that doesn't make you (or them) right :) What makes the son of a Hamas leader the speaker for all the Muslims in the world? Are his opinions to be taken as representative as the opinions of every Muslim in the whole world?

And what difference is there between the opinions of a so called Muslim who calls for the blood of what he sees as infidels and the posters above me who want all Muslims to be forcibly converted or their religion changed to suit your needs/agendas? Both are being one thing - not representatives of their individual religions but humans, who hate other humans for being different.

So before you talk of the brainwashed, you might want to consider whether you're brainwashed as well. Have you actually talked to real Muslims at all? Do you know what Muslims who are not concerned with America and its politics are like? But then again, such trivial details are probably not worth considering when all you really want to do is spread hatred ...

And if you're asking the moderates in Iran to step forward, shouldn't you also have asked for all the Germans to have risen up against Nazism? Why didn't they? Because both were being people - ordinary people who don't want to put themselves in the way of danger, people who want their families to be safe, people who don't go against governments. The whole idea of the masses rising up against their government might be very romantic, but it doesn’t always happen because people are simply people.

Re: Flash on iPhone: My Experience

Ben, just to digress slightly from the more technical side of things (and because the support URL for "Trading Stuff" gives me a DNS error ...) are you aware of a bug in "Trading Stuff" where after playing for a while you're unable to buy any more trade goods? The buy side gets this really long red line which extends to the left edge of the screen and you can't buy anything at all at that point. I've never been able to complete a game yet because of this issue ...

Re: gamemakers @ ngmoco:) - Stanford University and Apple were kind enough to...

Doug, not finding fault with your findings (I don't know OpenGL ES enough to do so) but if you make the change you suggest, the code will work fine in the simulator but will crash on device.
