They're great wingmen when you're trying to consider a subject rationally and reach a logical conclusion. See #1 in the link below.

http://www.washingtonpost.c...

Re: Here’s What Happened While The NRA Told Parents Not To Lock Up Their Guns

Again, I don't know why you keep asking me for proof when every argument you've made is based on (clearly uninformed) opinion, but here you go.

http://www.washingtonpost.c... - just read this. Everything in it is backed up with solid sources.

http://factcheck.org/2012/1... - this is a very long summary of the available data, some of which is contradictory, but which tends to point generally to something that seems rather obvious: More guns, more gun violence. Final two paragraphs:

"But among advanced countries, the U.S. homicide rate stands out. 'We seem to be an average country in terms of violence and aggression,' says Harvard’s Hemenway. 'What we have is huge homicide rates compared to anybody else.'

"Says Wintemute: 'The difference is that in this country violence involves firearms and firearms change the outcome.'"

Re: Here’s What Happened While The NRA Told Parents Not To Lock Up Their Guns

"They oppose having the firearm under lock and key. Follow the links in the paragraph that begins: "However, in multiple press releases opposing bills that would have required adults with children to lock up their guns..."

The NRA explicitly opposes legislation that makes it a crime to store weapons unsafely - which is how kids (and the mentally ill) get them in the first place.

Re: Here’s What Happened While The NRA Told Parents Not To Lock Up Their Guns

See m3bosha's reply below. Also, this isn't rocket science - gun violence statistics in first-world countries correlate very closely with gun control laws. Stronger laws, fewer dead kids.

Re: Here’s What Happened While The NRA Told Parents Not To Lock Up Their Guns

Yep, see my reply above.

Re: Here’s What Happened While The NRA Told Parents Not To Lock Up Their Guns

Jeez I dunno Jimni27, sounds like a tough assignment. Means I'll have to actually type some words into Google.

http://www.nraila.org/legis... - The NRA opposes this bill which makes "storing or leaving a loaded firearm within reach or access of a minor" a misdemeanor. Pretty perfect example right there. They helped defeat a similar bill in Colorado in 2008 - http://www.nraila.org/legis... - and they're up to the same stuff in Connecticut this year - http://www.nraila.org/legis...

http://billmoyers.com/2013/... - The NRA is opposed to measures that would strongly disincentivize straw purchases (i.e. buying a gun for someone who isn't legally allowed to have one). The recent murder of firefighters in Webster, NY was the direct result of a straw purchase that put a gun in the hands of a mentally ill neighbor.

So to recap: You said that you "favor criminal charges for people who allow a gun to get into the hands of a mentally ill family member." However, the NRA opposes laws that make it a crime to a) store your guns unsafely, which of course is how most children or mentally ill family members get their hands on them, or b) buy guns for someone who shouldn't have them. I pointed out that your position was the opposite of the NRA's, and you called me a propagandist. Now that it's clear that you were incorrect, I look forward to your apology.

Re: Here’s What Happened While The NRA Told Parents Not To Lock Up Their Guns

Fair or not, the NRA brings it on themselves by pushing the gun debate so far to the right that we've become an international laughingstock when it comes to our gun laws. They're not directly to blame when a two-year-old gets ahold of a loaded gun, but they've helped foment a culture around guns in this country that leads people to treat gun ownership far too casually. Owning a gun (or several) is a cultural thing now, in the same vein as driving a pickup truck and drinking a Bud, and the NRA and their "cold dead hands" rhetoric have been the driving force.

Re: Here’s What Happened While The NRA Told Parents Not To Lock Up Their Guns

OK, then your position is the opposite of the NRA's.

Re: Google Fiber expansion: Executive hints at new markets | BGR

Sure you do.
