Thank you, Kimberly, for your heartfelt authenticity! i don't know exactly what you are experiencing and feeling, but i was right there a year and a half ago when my ex left me. It was horrible and one person, who had been a mutual friend and started dating my ex, told a couple months later to just get over it and move on because it was time. i told her to fuck off and that everyone grieves differently and in their own time. Let me know if you ever wanna talk on the phone of through Skype. Love you.

Let's remember there is separation of church and state. You are free to have your beliefs about homosexuality but to deny people equal rights is wrong. Marin could simply say this.

I've had many a conversations with conservatives on this issue but they know where I stand. To me, people like Marin perpetuate a systemic cycle within the queer community of self-hatred, self-loathing and feeling less than. The old adage love the sinner hate the sin STILL communicates hate because the queer person cannot separate their orientation from their identity. It's a huge part of who we are as flesh and blood humans. If not fully embracing, then that's conditional love, plain and simple.

So, you know your interpretation of the bible is correct? Have you ever considered looking at the cultural and historical contexts of the scriptures? Expecting someone to live celibate is heartless. I'm queer, proud of it and left Christianity for many reasons, but high on the list are because of views like yours. I am human, made of flesh and blood and desires. I need human romantic connection. Telling me your g-d hates me for being queer and that I'm in sin for being in a same-sex relationship is pathetic and hurtful. The bible is just not that clear. You better not eat shell fish, wear mixed fiber clothing, etc.

Please do not go to the Marin Foundation. Marin will not affirm full equality and will not say pursuing a gay relationship is not a sin.

I'm queer and a former Christian. There's plenty of other resources.

Come to Transform the end of March in San Diego. I will be moderating an interfaith panel on how spirituality informs their faith.

You act as if you're queer and experience the same things as us! You act as if you're a martyr, Andrew! Queer people didn't choose to be queer or to be treated the way we are so much of the time! Oh, and Tony, I love how some allies take a critique or disagreement from a queer person and turn on them by saying something like, 'aren't we a good enough ally for your cause?' To be honest, the queer community is tired of being lambasted when we point out to allies where they aren't helping much. The role of ally is bestowed by the queer community.

In your response to me above, your question felt like I was being lambasted for not appreciating RHE enough, which is farthest from the truth. If you'd allowed my entire comment to sink in you would have seen that.

WOW Tony! You effing amaze me but I shouldn't be surprised. I love Rachel but have never heard her say whether she still believes it is a sin or not. My POINT was that she says it takes guts to issue an apology when it was not really an apology benefitting those harmed by Exodus and ex-gay therapy. You get so defensive whether it's about you or your inner circle posse! Grow up. You did not experience this crap Exodus perpetrated for nearly 40 years. BTW, just because of my initial comment on this thread does not mean I think Rachel is not an ally. So, get off your high horse and settle down.

I really love, with all due respect to my friend, Rachel Held Evans, how all you non-gay people who have no idea the pain and agony Exodus has afflicted upon gay people for nearly 40 years, are saying what a great thing it is with Alan Chamber's non-apology. He still believes being gay is a sin and the only two appropriate avenues for us gays is celibacy or marrying an opposite sex person. This is not healthy and STILL perpetuates lies that we are second class citizens. I personally have been deeply affected in a harmful way from
Exodus. So all you evangelicals applauding this supposed apology can suck my big toe!

i hear what you are saying, but equality for queer people IS a social justice issue. We queers are to be treated equally under the 14th Amendment i believe. We live in a nation founded upon separation of church and state and NO religion is to be imposed. Fundies can believe whatever they want about me but that does NOT give them the right at all to prevent me being treated equally and justly under the laws of the land afforded to all people.

If we go by your logic, if i am understanding you correctly, then we should have never allowed blacks and whites to marry, civil rights or women's suffrage. Thus, i demand acceptance because it is a social justice issue. Again, it comes back to a place of privilege holding their narrow views over marginalized people. It perpetuates injustice.

is not creating safe space. Allowing homophobic people where queer
people are is not creating safe space. KKK and homophobic people come
from a place of privilege and have plenty of other places to go.

Um, Nicole, there is a war on women as MOST in the GOP believe about abortion and birth control as Akin, including Paul Ryan. Ryan and Akin co-sponsored a bill in Congress to redefine rape. Look at all the states across the USA who have GOP governors and legislatures and how they have tightened rights for pro-choice advocates.

i met my beautiful wife online. Proposed to her at Giants Causeway on the northern most coast of Northern Ireland listening to Damien Rice's 'Blowers Daughter' on my ipod. (It's one of our love songs) Then i gave her a card with the Taco Bell hot sauce packet that says 'Will You Marry Me?' taped inside the card. Then i presented her with the ring! She cried, i cried and she said YES! Then we wrote on the railing that i proposed to her and the date! This was 2 years ago January! We married in California a year ago October before, unfortunately, Prop 8 passed!
