And your not being a resident should not matter since some who have been beating down Mr. Miller are also not residents. Both Phil and Norm have been a positive force in our town and have worked hard for us. They deserve some recognition for that effort. No one is perfect 100% of the time and all we can do is ask them to put out their best effort and THEY HAVE! They are both committed to our community and anyone who has bothered to really look at the FACTS knows that. These are some of the hardest economic times we have seen in many years and with their leadership our town continues to thrive and enjoy one of the lowest tax rates in the area. No small accomplishment. Let's stop the nonsense.

Re: Miller Responds to Officer in Essex Police Dog Dispute

It has become more and more obvious that this site is an instrument being used by those that have an axe to grind. Whether those people like it or not, the First Selectman of Essex is the Chief of Police. Here's a suggestion, how about we as tax payers disband the Essex Police, which would eliminate the constant stream of grievances and demands on our budget they pose and we go to a Trooper only system, there by cutting our legal costs and giving us protection as needed and scheduled. Constant sick time, injuries, book offs would be eliminated. If our Constables think the general public is unaware of their behavoirs they are sadly mistaken. The way to gain the towns people support is not through complaints and demands, it is through a positive work ethic. Unwarranted ticketing and harrassment do not bring them the respect they should have. There are two sides to every story and this site is only bringing out the complainers from what I can tell, and anyone posting a positive or contrary opinion is quickly pounced on. I am sure there this comment will bring a fire storm of replies from those very people, BUT I have lived here over 35 years and if I as a resident and tax payer who is not closely aligned with any of these entities sees and hears these things, maybe our Constables should take a second look at how they are perceived. I am not the only one with these opinions. Let's cut the nonsense and let our town elected officials do their jobs and maybe other town employees should follow suit. Enough already.

Re: Essex First Selectman Contest to Pit Republican Joel Marzi Against Democrat Phil Miller

Mr. Miller and Mr. Needleman have both had to make many hard choices to ensure that the RESIDENTS of Essex have the services they need and a budget they can afford. It would appear that many of the disgruntled folks working for our town are not RESIDENTS and therefore have no vested interest in the well being of our financial standing. In today's current economic climate all businesses (and a town has to run as a business) have had to make tough choices and make numerous cutbacks. Streamlining and combining services where possible is the responsible thing to do. Both these men have spent countless hours reaching out to the residents, listening to our concerns and acting on them. They have done an excellent job in a difficult time, and they have done it with diginity. My hope is this election will run on the merits of each candidate and not on lawsuits or complaints that have not been brought to any resolution. Anyone can file a lawsuit that does not mean there is merit behind it.
