This happened to me last week (in Ballard OMG) and I would hardly call it an "attack".

The crow flapped its wings at my head a couple times and then sat on the eaves of a building and yelled at me until I was a block or so away. I'm bald so if they wanted to draw blood it would have been easy.

Just my opinion, but I'd save the word "attack" to describe what a bear or or a shark would do to you.....

I didn't notice that, but that would explain it. Seemed pretty brazen to just pull out like that.

As for the 20-40 people on the bus, obviously the bus has the right of way over little ol' me, and I always yield, it just *looked* like he ran a red light, that's all.

Yeah, exactly, except that an awful lot of "professional drivers" are driving like crap out there too. Cab drivers are the worst and some of the bus drivers are pretty bad as well. I see buses run red lights all the time downtown, and I don't mean the articulated bus is long and doesn't make it through the yellow, I mean entering the intersection when the light is already red.

The other day on Columbia I was stopped at a red light next to a bus and the bus took off 5-10 seconds before the light turned green so that they could merge in front of me before the entrance to the viaduct.

And don't get me started on the bus drivers who straddle the lanes on Aurora because they clearly aren't comfortable driving a vehicle that large. I've never seen a truck driver do that, ever.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) would be better. A street car is nothing more than a really expensive bus that is tied to a specific route and is still stuck in traffic.

No way that Seattle will ever build light rail on our own, that's pure crazy talk and diminishes what little is left of McGinn's credibility.

My advice would be that his sign is essentially his resume, and it's really no better looking than the other "candidates" down the street who are just looking for a handout.

Make a sign that is worthy of a college graduate and you might get more hits.....

Parking spaces aren't free, they add to the cost of construction and maintenance of the building. I would bet that the number of parking spots designed into the building is a compromise of cost and expected demand made by the people who have a financial stake in the building.

It might be nice to keep an unused car in the garage, but would you do it if it cost you $200 a month?

Actually, crossing 24th is a whole lot safer now that it's one lane in each direction. That's what pedestrians in this town get, it's just that most of them don't understand what they're getting.

I don't think this is really a "kids game store", looks like they cater more to grown-up nerds who like role-playing card games.....and beer.

Also, ask some of the dads you know, you might find that the prenatal clinic/wine bar might be a big hit.

If parking was really an issue that the Ballard businesses felt strongly about then the Ballard Chamber should get them all together and (as another poster already suggested) take up a collection from all the businesses and lease the lot at the old Yankee Diner and provide free parking for their customers. I'd be willing to bet that it's not a big enough issue for the local merchants to really put their $$'s behind.

BTW, this is what they do at the mall, it's not like the parking lot just appeared for free, all the businesses in the mall pay for the lot and pass the cost on to the consumer.

Actually Viaduct Lover, this is where YOU look bad. Intermodal containers are packed for global shipping, not local delivery. Typically a shipping container will be trucked from the port to a distribution warehouse before the goods are put out for local delivery, usually on smaller single axle trucks.

Not that many large trucks use the viaduct, most go to I-5 via the Spokane st viaduct or use East Marginal Way. After the tunnel is built, and the Viaduct is removed (if "we" have the balls to actually get it done) there is going to be a pretty sweet freight corridor from East Marginal along Alaskan Way, OVER the railroad tracks, to Western/Elliot/15th.

I know it's hard to believe that Civil Engineers might know what they are doing, but north-south freight travel will likely be better when (if) this project is done.

Actually the voting 5X thing was when we voted FOR the monorail, which we now don't get to use to bypass the clusterf**k that the construction will result in.

My comment had to be "reviewed by a moderator" I guess because I included a link to an image of the original Ballard Bitter Label. Anyway Ballard Bitter *was* an IPA and the label always said as much. I just bet that today the term "Bitter" just doesn't do well in focus groups, you know, with "bitter beer face" and all.

If using a phone is as dangerous as drunk driving why have the fatality rates per 1Mil miles traveled gone down every year since 1994 when the rates of cell phone use have gone up?
