Our small firm has been able to hire about twenty talented game developers and support staff to Vegas since January. We've attracted folks from the Bay Area, Seattle, Salt Lake City, LA, and other tech rich centers. They are all leaving townhomes and buying homes with pools. I'm looking forward to helping form the snowball.

Re: Game Pricing, Look Out Below

I think the $0 price tag will be really powerful when PC prices drop more and the middle class of India and China grow some more. Advertising may be more valuable than the up-selling of premium services.

Re: One Way To Divide Your Company Equity At Start Up

You missed the silent partner - the government.

Re: One Way To Divide Your Company Equity At Start Up

This is also good advice when several indies are working together for a project. Set up a teaming agreement ( sample-> http://www.attny.com/team24... ) when the relationship begins.

If the people you are working with are as reasonable as you, then your agreement can be less detailed. If you have any reservations, put down every detail possible on paper for reference later. Being proactive avoids the likelihood of needing a lawyer. Lawyers are the only ones who win in civil court.

I always want something on paper. I'm surprised by how often I forget the exact deal we agreed on 6 months into the project.

Re: Motivation

Hey Jeff, first time posting here. Really enjoy all the commentary, thanks for this. I’ve been watching Gary for about a year, and there’s no doubt he loves what he does. In fact, he even states that he eats dirt to broaden his palate.

He reminds me of Jim Cramer (who he’s had on his show before). Cramer wrote a book called Confessions of a Sreet Addict. I think the word addict applies to most of the best in any industry: weight lifters, singers, golf, etc. And although addiction can lead to greatness in some things, it doesn’t bode well for relationships outside of work (like say... Rudi Giuliani ).
