I *just* finished reading this book! I liked the cover art design better than the actual story, which felt a bit too abstract and detached to me. My main takeaway from it - that even when people achieve a state of wealth, they just wind up being bored with nowhere else to go. So, summed up by the Shakespeare quote "We, at the height, are ready to decline".

Did you like the book? It seems from your selected quotes that you were more interested in its fictional description of the immigrant experience.

I think I tend to have the other reaction about authors writing about their childhood - tend to find it very interesting - ex: how that would influence their adult selves. My bf recently bought over some hard copies of the new yorker mag, which I've never had before, and I love reading them. Some of the articles are soooo good.

I also had that beginning stint with psychology and SPSS ... yeah, the clinical, research aspect seemed very unappealing. It's amazing how hard writing is.

haha I know you are a fan of the bright colors, esp. with makeup right? I mean I do like them also ... although in this case the pink and black reminded me of the pop punk bands I listened to when I was 16 or 17 =P

Oui, I am really looking forward to prolonging the length of time I can wear this dress via layering... I am not sure what color tights to wear with them though; black might make it 'too much' black, and white might be too matchy. *sigh* life is so difficult.

Oh it actually wasn't hard ... firstly, it was the only blush I had and I was using it almost daily, also, the matte, pale colors are so much less pigmented that I needed to rub the powder puff a lot in order to get it to show.

Oh really? I wish there'd be more of those brands readily available. It would be nice to have a choice between a few brands ... do you know of any in the area besides what can be found at the face shop? Relating to the pan, haha yes and the outer part is hard to get to now! These retail at $11 for 5g / 0.17 oz. - Probably not the best price to product ration, but I rationalize with, you are getting a unique experience in using it. =P

Your critiques are actually right on point. The things you mentioned above are things I have realized as I started painting my nails more. This one here was pretty much my first attempt at doing the nails again since Middle School.

I can understand the 'if you're going to do it then make it perfect and do it right' mentality. At the same time, adding some color to the hands is supposed to be fun and I personally don't care when someone's 'mani' isn't perfect, although I do appreciate it when seeing one that *is* perfect looking/well designed. I tend to think of it more in terms of: why did they pick the color(s), what does that say about their personality / who they are / how they are feeling at the moment.

I think I've gotten a lot better and fairly quickly at the manicure thing.

Thanks for the interesting comment. Rare to receive a random comment that is long and detailed and treads that fine line between trolling and being a normal person. :)

Thanks for the toner recommendation! I've been underwhelmed with the two toners I have tried (Neutrogena, Earth Science) in that it doesn't really feel like they do anything. I will keep an eye out for the Alba the next time I visit Whole Foods.

Glad it's inexpensive because I tend to be very hesitant to buy expensive skincare products. :D

Thank you Melody! <3 I think we rushed a bit with our first place which resulted in having to get rid of some stuff like a table, and a heavy wardrobe, and 4 chairs. So this time I'd rather take my time and not wind up throwing things out and being wasteful.

I used to mainly shop there in middle school/early high school for clothing, then I slowly stopped because there's just so much to sift through. So far, every time I go there for soap, it's been a awesome selection! ^_^ Haven't been lucky enough to find good cosmetics there yet ... usually it'll look like it's been touched.

Hey thanks! Yeah it was a good experience - so neat and efficient. I hope you have a good experience with it when/if you go. I actually purchased jade is the new black afterwards cuz I loved it so much. =P It's so elegant and I love the hint of teal. (fav color ---> green)
