I buy almost exclusively used. I live in a fairly small, art oriented college town. When students need to sell something to pay a bill or at the end of the semester, camera stuff is often sold for ridiculous prices.

I've bought a Nikon SB-800 like new for $200, a Nikon 105mm 2.8 AF-D lens for $150, and just a few days ago purchased a Gitzo tripod with Manfrotto pro ball head for $45. Craigslist and the local pawn shops around here are awesome.

Circular polarizers also really bring out the colors in a rainbow. This one wasn't a man made rainbow, but I really like it. I took this right after a pretty bad hail storm.

It certainly wasn't my favorite experience, but my most memorable was photographing our stillborn son. It was awful doing it, but I'm very thankful now that I did. It's one of the few things we have to remember him by.
