Love this op-ed and we need more like it to keep Angelenos informed of what is really going on behind closed doors in City Hall and City Planning. I am very excited for Measure S - http://voteYesonS.org which will shine a very bright light on the "paytoplay" methods now used by developers. And even if your councilperson isn't getting "donations" - developers have lobbyists that infiltrate local Neighborhood Council Meetings, and are allowed to speak to City groups which still act as undue influence over the process. Homeowners and Tenants MUST BE protected from a patchwork of zoning exemptions and entitlements, especially without any clear plan.

In Sherman Oaks, I am the co-founder of a local tenants & residents group trying to save a historical property - Chase Knolls Garden Apartments - from expansion, I have done hundreds of hours of research reading the original 15 year old documents (inc. Environmental Impact Report - EIR) and public records. It is fascinating to see how a bucolic, garden apartment community was "allowed" or should I saw politicked into being able to add 6 new NON-garden apartment type structures in the face of evidence that solidly did not support this 15 years ago. It is clear the then owners made some kind of "sweetheart deal" to get the plans approved in his favor.

Now, almost 15 years after the Final EIR was approved, the newest owner/developer is granted same rights to build with out of date plan that will overcrowd schools, create worse traffic jams, and over-densify an area built to the seams. We are fighting with all our might to stop this from happening and we may lose. If we had Measure S in place 15 years ago, this may not have happened. Let's make sure another property isn't raped and pillaged by those elected to serve us. Vote YES on S March 7th.

As a resident of California where there are millions of pools (and a friend of the Sloan family), I am hoping to bring this awareness across country. As a mother, we were aware of pool safety and not leaving your child attended, but NEVER in our wildest dreams would we ever fathom what happened to "Mr. Awesome" - Calder Sloan. Bravo to the Florida construction industry, boards and trades for moving very quickly to prevent this tragedy from happening anywhere, ever again.

I agree this "appears" to be a very banal/weak episode - however, as I rewatch the series from the beginning to get ready for the end - we may all be surprised by what it actually revealed and what "we" did not see...

How horrible for Pierce Brosnan and for all of his family...may Charlotte rest in peace. Perhaps this tragedy that may have been avoided and brings to the forefront yet again why genetic testing for these silent, deadly cancers MUST be available to all.

Also another strike against Angelina Jolie's detractors who thought she made an unnecessary move and a call to action for those whose mothers and grandmothers have succumbed to this horrible disease.

Here's my humble opinion and what I plan on posting on that site:

I am a firm believe in freedom of speech and I am not always in agreement with how
Klout operates, but this aggregation of words (I won't dignify it by
calling it a blog post or even an article) that is a hateful, spiteful,
uninformed, piece of trash this side of anything coming out of North
Carolina's voting population. Not to mention that they have chosen to
mess with one of my first Twitter friends (who would talk with me and teach me about Twitter and graphic arts back in the day) and who is nowa real-life dear friend
and one of the truly one of the sweetest and nicest people I know. The reason why he has so many followers and friends IRL and on the page.

All I
know is that the only douchebags on that site is the ignoramus (or ignorami) who wrote it
and the one who let it be published.

BUT, if you really
want to know how I feel, I can sum it up this way - these dudes give
the word douchebag a bad name. They are the anti-christs of social media.

When I read the tweet promoting the post, I thought it was Jessica being Jessica and it was a joke...much to my horror it's not! WTF are they thinking...oh wait, they're not! I think the parents should start a petition to have it taken down for the #1 reason - the safety of the children who attend the school! Way to go Jessica!
