God that was the worst. He refused to face in, wouldn’t latch. HATED THE BOOB. The day we decided to stop trying was both the best and worst day. After that, I pumped and we supplemented with formula. Nine months of pumping. He turns 18 years old this Saturday, and I still feel like crying about the breastfeeding debacle.

I’m on the bus heading for work and trying not to ugly cry. I am so grateful for the work you’ve been doing and the community here. This space has made me a better person, a better and more informed activist, and a more committed feminist. Your work helped me to run for office, and to advocate for change. Please know that whatever is next for you, I am thinking of you with love and hope that it fulfills you without damaging your health.

If you’re looking for a computer bag, I highly recommend the Samsonite Spinner Underseat with USB Port, which I got from eBags. I use it daily for work, hauling my medium-sized computer, as well as my lunch and my workout clothes for PT. I also used it for a family wedding weekend in Maine, and it fit under my (center) seat on Southwest, while holding all my clothes and assorted other items. It rolls smoothly over most surfaces. It fits my work laptop HP Elitebook) perfectly, my home laptop (a larger Asus), less so. I have to put the Asus in diagonally.

Jennifer Wexton is my congresswoman. And she’s my friend, too! We served together on the Loudoun County Community Services Board a decade ago and I couldn’t be prouder of her. I took her on her very first canvass!!!

Lentil stew. When we make it just for ourselves, we put cut-up summer sausage in it. When we make it for pot luck, we bring the cut-up sausage in a separate pot so that vegans can eat the stew too.

My son starts his junior year in high school on Thursday. Last year, we deliberately bought supplies in bulk*, because so many of his classes required the same types of supplies. So this year we only had to get him a heavier weight sketch book and more mechanical pencil leads.

*I acknowledge the privilege it takes to spend money on bulk items, and to have the space to keep them. I’m sending in extra supplies to his classes, especially art, to spread that privilege around.

The only bellwether information one can get from primaries is turn out in swing districts where both parties had contested primaries. For example: my own district, VA10. Dems showed up in greater numbers, and the winner of the 6-way dem primary (stare senator Jennifer Wexton) won with more votes than the winner of the 2-way GOP primary (the incumbent). New Monmouth poll has Wexton up by 10.
