It looks like Dr. Reddy purchased a home in 2004 for $1,335,000. While the value of the home has likely gone down in the meantime, he's sure to have other assets. Unless there punitive damages are being sough, Juries are unlikely to know what income or assets the Defendant has and should not consider them in an award. The only thing they should consider are the actual damages suffered by the Plaintiff. Whether or not the Defendant can pay for these damages should be a non-issue to the Jury.

Re: Jury awards $5 million to family of Las Vegas chef

It's interesting to me how all of these people can comment on the Jury's award without knowing the facts presented to the Jury. The article does not even mention what the award consisted of. How much of the damages found by the Jury was for medical specials, lost income or pain and suffering of the deceased and/or his family? I don't know. Do those of you ranting on here know?

Who was on the Jury and what were there past experiences? Again, no one here knows for sure and to be accusing them of being idiots (as done in one local blog) is ridiculous without knowing the facts. Perhaps there is a reasonable and logical explanation for their award.

It just makes no sense to spout off when you don't know all of the facts. It's like Monday morning quarterbacking when you didn't even watch the game, hear the game, listen to any news reports or have any facts about the game. If I told you UNLV lost a game 23 - 17 and you had no other information would you criticize the players or the coach? I doubt it and if you did, you would have no basis to do so.

Re: Do We Really Need Witnesses to Car Accident Cases?

Paul: The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department had announced that it would not investigate non-injury accidents. As you may know, not all injuries are apparent at the scene. Having police not appear will make it more difficult for injured victims of car accidents to proceed with their claims against the at fault drivers.

Re: Las Vegas candidate’s allegations reveal another side of judiciary races

The problem with appointments is pretty much the same as the problem with elected jurists: who has influence on their appointment/election. In the case of appointments, it is easy to see that a person supporting a particular governor will want to see that governor appoint judges favorable to their philosophy or business interests. In essence, you can influence multiple judicial positions by supporting a single political campaign.

Re: Las Vegas candidate’s allegations reveal another side of judiciary races

Walter: You're responding as if you believe that Mr. Tindall is telling the truth. Mr. Tindall is a lawyer who has spent most, if not all, of his career defending lawsuits on behalf of insurance companies. I don't know what information you might have, but it would be best to make sure all of the facts are available before making a decision.

Re: NRCP 16.1 Mandatory Initial and Expert Disclosures

Yes. Disclosure of Expert Witnesses is required under NRCP 16.1(a)(2) including a report by the expert, the expert's qualifications and a list of other cases he/she has testified in as an expert. Treating physicians are specifically noted in the Notes to the Rule to be excluded from this requirement.

Re: http://www.fool.com/fool/free-report/1502/supernova-summit1-164781.aspx

It's working on my Windows 7 PC.
