There are no cries of uncaring apathy because the idea of drilling itself is so abhorrent to the religiously eco-failthful that anything that helps to cast a long, sour, and negative light on "Big Oil" is gratefully appreciated by the enviroweenies.
All the fault will be laid upon The Usual Evil Suspects: Big Oil -- not on Obama for blowing the chance - this IS the chance.
As the Ailnsky playbook reveals, never let a crisis go to waste - unless it's one that can be easily blamed on an a target like Big Oil that the Media has already fixed, frozen and demonized for you - and especially if it will benefit friends like Hugo Chavez.

Term limits - of course! I really-REALLY-REALLY want to give uo the power Feinstein and Booxer have... But I can't because I have a Rhinocrat Gubbenator who won't stand firm on Legislators drawing their own districts, panders to the Tree-huggers and Animal Rightists, and is willing to give away the state coffers under the name of Socialized Medicine... Here in CA there's plenty that doesn't happen in Sacramento all the time, just look at out Budget. The State employees are Unionized and take breaks and go on strike as a matter of course - perhaps as long as three months. Or it could have landed on somebody's desk who was out on maternity leave and then took extended sick-leave because they didn't feel like returning to work just then. I'm not sure but that might work for "paternity leave" for fathers also. There's plenty of nothing that happens in Sacramento, and lots and lots of people who are well-paid for doing it.

The turn towards "corn-thonol" is endangering Tequila production, as poor Mexican land that wasn't previously very valuable until the corn prices went up, is turned to that and a quick-growth cash-product, and away from the longer-term demands of growing Agave. The horrors!
