But what I'm wondering is the extent to which an MP can legally catalog the incoming calls they receive in a constituency office and then turn that information over to a riding association.

Re: O Canada?

"First and foremost, MPs will receive letters and calls about this. I just spoke to a constituency office manager that says he’s already received a number of calls about it. Staff will diligently be ID’ing these callers as “traditionalist” voters in the Conservative base."

This is an interesting comment. What, exactly, do you mean by it?

Re: Michael Ignatieff in Halifax

Step aside, Million Man March, seven people showed up in Halifax and held up home-made signs for an afternoon.

Re: Liberal reaction full of holes

I think you're stretching here, Stephen. What cause the holes in the paper? Why are they there? The illustration doesn't really make sense unless the holes are supposed to be bullet holes due to Dion's being shot at by his own party members.

Let's just be gownups about this. The Liberals should apologize for publishing the photoshopped picture their supporter made on their website. The Conservatives should apologize for this one and pull it down, too.

I really get the sense that issues like these wouldn't come up so ofter if political actors didn't feel the need to vilify each other constantly.

Re: The Colvin emails

My favourite paragraph (from the first email):

7. Oh wait, I do.

Re: Narnia found!

"conversely Torontonians need to look at the bigger picture"

I agree with that. I grew up in southern Ontario and today I live in the prairies, so I see both sides of these kinds of issues. I think that we all need to make an effort to move beyond regional politics and toward a more co-operative model of federalism. I think that there are legitimate criticisms that can be raised about how our status quo treats certain regions unfairly, and we should absolutely try to address those issues. But I don't think it's helpful when that debate devolves into region bashing one way or the other.

Re: Narnia found!

I've never understood the Conservatives' anti-Toronto pandering. If you're going to "stand up for Canada", you need to stand up for all Canadians, including Torontonians. We need to move beyond divisive regional politics and remind ourselves that Canadians are stronger together.

Re: CBC Board member is Iggy’s newest recruit

Deep breaths, Stephen.

Re: Who are you? I would like to see a single service that accesses all of these services' APIs to combine everything that I want into a single "river of news" format and allow me to interact with the items inline. For example, I should be able to @reply tweets or "link" facebook updates or comment on YouTube videos from within the client. Obviously, some of this functionality is limited by the constraints of the APIs, but I think that the future of social network clients is in consolidating items from disparate social networks into a single place for reading and interacting with them.

Re: The Fraser Institute – a case study in how not to engage young people

I saw that video a couple weeks ago as one of my conservative friends had posted it on Facebook. I laughed so hard I almost cried. And you are absolutely right: the worst part is not the cheesiness of the ad. The worst part is that they fail to make the logical, rational argument they promise at the beginning. Epic fail.

Re: Background on Missing the Link

I will look forward to reading this as soon as my exams are finished.

Re: Wedding Open Source to Government Service Delivery

This is a fantastic explanation and a good start. The challenge, though, is that for a lot of the other things that government might crowdsource the conditions you've identified are not immediately present. Instead, they must be created somehow. Identifying possible analogous systems and figuring out how to create the conditions for them to succeed are going to be important challenges to move government and society forward.

Re: I'm sad to report that #APtweetup was a flop

Free food and available alcohol (not necessarily free) are always a good draw.
