Great stuff here - I'm not sure if my feet have changed at all, but I have noticed that my ankles and lower shins feel stronger since I've gone towards more minimal shoes. Anecdotal as can be, but I've had a number of instances where I've been on the precipice of turning my ankle and have had the foot/ankle strength to correct without spraining or straining.

I'd add that most commonly-used explosives (PETN, RDX, HMX, TATP, ammonium nitrate) aren't nitroaromatics - which means that this technique isn't very useful as sold. It's a cool idea, exploiting the particular electronic properties of nitroaromatics, but it's being absurdly oversold.

The difference is roughly 500 calories, which for me (27, male, 150 lbs) would require 4.4 miles run (1 mile = 120 calories). Calories burned don't change on a per mile basis, but weight is a significant factor (more caloric output required to move a 180 pound body vs a 110 pound body).

A 25% increase in daily caloric intake is very significant, but to say one must run 8 miles per day to make up the difference is inaccurate, unless the person listed weighs about 90 pounds.

I can understand the drive to get new runners and market towards them - it may be possible to make more money off of a bunch of startup runners who stop than one may off of lifetime runners. I don't know the economics of it (and it kind of scares me to try to ponder). That being said, they're sending incredibly mixed signals.

It is possible - I've got a number of deaf friends who have voice-free data/SMS plans. I don't know whether or not you need like an official 'doctor's note' written to AT&T, but it definitely can be done.

I think there's a significant issue with respect to trying to run any sort of analysis on running data: margin of error.

Sure, a race chip time is accurate - but how reproducable are the results? How deep a data set is needed from a runner to establish reliable, reproducable data?

And that's just one issue w/r/t timing. What about other, difficult-to-quantify data, like pain?

The difficulty in having rigorous data is a big hurdle to a lot of research - at least when trying to state a reproduceable thesis.
