Gillen, General Counsel for the American Cotton Shippers Association agrees the honor was well-bestowed.

In an e-mail, Gillen said: "I worked closely with Duke during the 1970s during his numerous trips to Washington. I cannot think of a better producer advocate for improving the programs then in effect.

"He was articulate, to the point, and his keen sense of humor always left a warm feeling with the people he visited. More importantly, he was highly intelligent and possessed an exceptional political mind.

"Thankfully, he passed on all of these characteristics to his well-liked and highly successful sons.

"The cotton industry has been blessed to have people like Duke make available their talents, energy, and time for the betterment of all."

Re: Gustav timing could not have been worse

Does anyone have information yet on the effect of Hurricane Ike on Mid-South crops?

Re: Gustav pounds Mid-South crops

Roger Carter gives a pretty bleak report for east central Louisiana cotton: http://deltafarmpress.com/c...

Re: Gustav sacks Louisiana cotton

“Farmers have also been told that if they have multiple contracts at an elevator they must fill all contracts before the elevator will release any checks."

What are farmers in other parts of the Mid-South hearing from their elevators?
