Neal P. Gillen, General Counsel for the American Cotton Shippers Association agrees the honor was well-bestowed.

In an e-mail, Gillen said: "I worked closely with Duke during the 1970s during his numerous trips to Washington. I cannot think of a better producer advocate for improving the programs then in effect.

"He was articulate, to the point, and his keen sense of humor always left a warm feeling with the people he visited. More importantly, he was highly intelligent and possessed an exceptional political mind.

"Thankfully, he passed on all of these characteristics to his well-liked and highly successful sons.

"The cotton industry has been blessed to have people like Duke make available their talents, energy, and time for the betterment of all."
