How's this:

Question: What ever happened to old school marketing?
Answer: Social Media KLT it! (as in: Social Media's KLT formula/philosophy killed it!)

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Google Maps Becomes a Drag

Agreed, GREAT headline which then makes the post's content ALL the more sweet! What struck me 'bout this news is the MAGNITUDE of step-up this represents for the maps -- instantly, now with this feature, the maps come to LIFE through real-time response to real-time situations. Another wonderful Google-vation (Google + innovation?)... Well, s'wonderful, s'all I know...Google just keeps making things better and better and better, easier and easier for us to do what we do already. These days, all transactions (money-centered or not) are based on whether people "Know, Like and Trust" whomever is on the other side of that transaction. So, here's a thought: What happened to old school marketing? Social Media KLT it!

KLT = Know, Like and Trust.

Chris, how 'bout holding a little contest for who can come up with the best string of KLT-containing phrases or sentences? Could be fun! What do you think?

Loved your post,
Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Measuring Social Traffic’s success

In my mind, EDBD was/is ANYthing BUT a failure. There are many ways that must be accepted as successful; even if the critical line isn't toed. Here I'm talking about BUZZ. VERY important! Why? Because frankly had it NOT been for the buzz, the friend who urged me to look AGAIN into SImon Ford may not have classed it as important as she did FOR ME, specifically. She felt the rumble and KNEW in her heart of hearts that this was something I'd resonate with. Of course, she was right. But without the Buzz would the quality of STi or EDBD been heard? I think not.

So while the financial goals were not met, I dare say some much more important ones were, AND with those peripheral benefits comes a stronger second run. Dare I say one more thing: I have not one sliver of doubt in my mind that EDBD 2010 will be beyond AWESOME! The 10x10x10 will rise and march with THUNDERing impact. This is what came from that 1st campaign; what has morphed into the new STi; what WILL prevail and go on to build even stronger momentum and measurable results. These things, I believe.

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Returns on your time investment to date

The thing I SO love about being involved with STi is the Transparency you, Simon, bring to the table! I am continually REinspired by it. It is a huge part of what goes into my thinking of you and your business ways as the REAL DEAL. From Day1, it has ALWAYS been a matter of what you say is what we get, and if anything, you've not once failed to provide a mile MORE in most unexpected, and deeply appreciated ways. Wowzers!

Peace and Love to You, Simon
DeeJay

Re: The Social Traffic (2) campaign tie in…

As I start to write this response, I notice that I am -- at this moment -- incredibly physically hungry. This makes sense since I have not taken the time to eat well today. I have been far too focused on getting ducks in a row. I will -- after this writing -- stop for what will be a VERY well-deserved feast.

Well... check THAT out! Without realizing it until the words took form right in front of me on the screen, I see my first paragraph as an almost perfect analogy for the kernel of your post here, Simon! Wowzers... the way the mind works; the way things come together SO stellarly, sometimes, is amazing.

The one thing I WAS consciously thinking about when I sat about this response was something Steve had said; something he took off from what you said, Simon, about financial success and the frequency of planning tie-in. THAT struck me as too crucial to be minimized or UNemphasized.

I've never been a solid financial planner and this, of course, goes a LONG, LONG way toward explaining how it is that I have put myself in my current financial spot. I see how I did it, but more importantly I see how this type of behavior is past on generation after generation. If there's no financial discussion around the dinner table -- as a simple matter of course -- children will not GET it. They won't grow into adulthood mindful of it. They will find themselves made fodder for the wolves out there and before they know the REAL DEAL, VALUE and USE of money, they're already up to their eyeballs in crocodiles!

Given these truths in my life, I wonder how much value my legacy will be given, understood, utilized vs. simply consumed. This wondering will NOT stop me from the amassing, from the building, from the doing or the giving. But I do wonder. And in that state of wondering, I also see the importance of documenting ones story. At least let there be a history from the source, of how it all came about! Let there be no guessing. Let it be known that the Legacy came about through deliberate planning and conscious sacrifice.

Steve, when you posted that we should drill down and focus in on our the anticipated feelings we would experience once our goals are met, I thought THAT was one brilliant piece of advise. 'Cause even with belief in a cause, the what's in it for me will get you EVERY time, if you aren't clear. So, here's mine:

With $100,000:
I move to a place that has space enough for the thoughts I think; that will add to those thoughts by the views from my windows; the sounds coming to my ears; the people who are my physical neighbors; I obtain the most tricked out, capable multi-media system: computer, monitors, cameras, appropriate software, etc.; I buy a ticket to the one place on earth that inspires me to keep moving forward today; I pay off my debts; and put $25K in the no-spend place.

When I can do those things, how will I feel? In addition to feeling absolutely MARVELOUS, I'll also feel gratified, well-placed in my life, knowing that I DID it. I WALKED my TALK, and the result is out there for anyone who cares to look to see. I will feel pleased with myself and my choices. I will feel GREAT!

Thank you Simon. Thank you Steve. Thank you STi VIP & HPT!

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: A start-ups life-script is its life-line…

Recently, during one of those popcorn-moments at a business meeting on Skype, I was asked how I found out about Simon and the work he does. This was my response:

Initially, I had discovered Simon on one of my internet discovery jaunts and while I thought his topic was exactly on target for me and what I wanted to do with Local Search, his tremendously l-o-n-g posts turned me off completely. So, I back burnered any involvement until a very good friend of mine started raving about how I just HAD to check out this guy Simon Ford; that his stuff was absolutely too perfect for me. She went on and on. I literally could NOT shut her up for quite a few running minutes! In the end, the only thing that did quiet her down was my solemn promise to revisit Simon Ford.

To keep my promise, I enlisted a piece of software called TextAloud and had my computer read Simon's posts while I did stuff around the house: dusting, washing dishes, whatever. But then as time went by I -- as if being pulled by a rope, hand over hand -- more and more often found myself doing MUCH more listening than cleaning, until finally I was sitting in front of my computer, reading with my own eyes as I continued to listen to Mike (my computer's voice). By this time, I was HOOKED and I've never looked back.

What do I want to be three years from now? An even greater force to be reckoned with for good service, added value, and positive, sustained relationships.

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Facebook Groups

Hi Rebecca,

Remember that old saying or was it lyrics to a song: "It's a thin line between love and hate.." The same can be said for living in a democracy. Certainly and without a doubt, haters make the environment feel less clean with their mental sputum, BUT the principle that give them to right to express what they feel IS what makes THIS country great than MANY others out there. Dictatorships are only good for those who agree with whomever's in charge THIS year... but what of next year or the year after that?

Haters make it tough. I wholly agree with you, but dictators and censorship... These are quicksand pits for the soul! Direct enemies of Freedom.

I believe therefore the best remedy for haters is to
a.) pray for them to wise up,
b.) recognize that many are simply in these groups for the shock value they can generate (I try hard NOT to give them the satisfaction. Very often, of course, this is MUCH easier said than done.) and
c.) Do everything we know how to do to make OUR numbers grow at least 10 - 20 times their rate and they WE stay strong and never take each other or our Freedomes for granted.

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Facebook Groups

Integrity as a synonym for authenticity or transparency as a way of doing business; as a way for living life. It is no less than poetic justice that trains with such engines travel farther and ride more smoothly than those operating with looser rules of conduct and expectations. Everything's better when accountability's in the house.

This post also immediately brings to mind your aggregator post pointed out earlier today as THE way to tabs on what's going on in each of our various areas of specific interest.

You bring Good stuff as ALWAYS, Simon. This flies in the face of the person I see myself as being. So, I've put the hermit lifestyle behind me, because it's really NO style at all!

Peace and Love to You Rebecca!
DeeJay

Re: Celebration Of Empowerment

Yes, Neil, it's aMAZing. As I watch my OWN metamorphic transformation unfold, I am -- more than anything else, astonished that it: 1.) took SO long (in terms of the years I've already lived, 2.) that the changes taking place are so DEEP, 3.) that it's all come about from relationships built ONLINE! As I have shared more than once, heretofore I have been the picture of Introversion, content to sit wherever, doing whatever I was interested in at the time -- none of which EVER included just going out to be with others, or even going out of my way (in any way, shape, or form) to invite people into my world. YET, as a direct result of having met Simon, online, and becoming so TOTALLY wowed by what he offers, I am leap frogging over past restrictions or mile-high barriers that would have stopped me dead in my tracks before. Witness my YouTube testimonial to Simon: http://www.youtube.com/watc.... Nothing, as I say during that testimonial, would have prompted me to put myself out there like that except the MIRACLE I see Simon and the way his mind works as being.

I guess it's like that old saying: When the student is ready, the teacher appears. (My question, though, I'm not willing to spend any REAL time on pursuing its answer, is: Why'd it take me SO long to be ready?) Such is life, I suppose. It's up to each of us to live it with the highest amount of integrity possible and to ensure the fact that those we trust are folk cut from that exact same cloth. I LOVE what the world is coming to. I LOVE being a part of THIS way of being!

Peace and Love to You Neil,
DeeJay

Re: Beyond Web 2.0 - Getting Prepared For The Next Step In Web Technologies

I surely LOVE the way your mind works, Simon: Luv it, luv it, luv it (period!) As I was listening to my computer read this post, pictures began to form in my mind: I saw the crowd in Times Square; the absolute FANatics at the Super Bowl; celebrants at a Pub Party, and more... the images, literally, started streaming faster, and faster across my mind's eye. Then, a voice - quite and still said: That's what I meant by being (actually living) on both sides of the counter! What you're seeing is the participant's side; the audience; the market. At that point, another voice chimed in: Yes, and you, DeeJay, are on the provider's side. What i hear you saying, Simon was also what JW Woolworth said (only I hear you louder and clearer): You market (tell the story) from the OTHER side of the counter, else there'll be no resonance. No resonance means no growing excitement means no evangelism, and spiraling downward, we end up with no deal! Waaaah! BIG tears.

Bottom line, what I'm hearing you say here, Simon is this: If your audience can't identify with what you're saying/doing, you will have no market; no business from that audience. Like the power tool shop with everything laid out on hot pink doilies selecting as their primary market old school, MALE, bikers who live on Harleys. There may be a story there, but odds are, the average Biker would probably take his business elsewhere, quick!

Anyway, thank you Simon. Your ability to convey concepts is AMAZING!

Peace and Love to You,
DeeJay

Re: Marketing Like Revolving Doors

By continually reading and thinking about your posts, Simon, I've been unconsciously trained to expect -- even to seek out -- the thread that connects ALL of your posts into the thoroughly comprehensive piece of work that your philosophy of marketing is. This post is, of course, no different. It is rather still another instance of you having moved the little window of focus for easier consumption. The revolving door concept SO beautifully flows into and from the post "Events -- Where Communities Meet." By embracing the philosophy of Life as a String of Events as augmented by the feeder thought of paying considered attention to everything leading up to events as meticulously as we pay attention to the after-flow, we are presented with a singularity that prevents any number of ills: 1.) Being willy-nilly attracted to the next shiny object; 2.) Changing ANYthing you do without THOROUGH due diligence, 3.) Forgetting the value of a customer; forgetting your purpose.

The Revolving Door concept smooths things from a series of dots to an ever-strengthening flow of purposeful doing-ness. With these overarching concepts in place, all one needs to then do is absorb the how-to particulars. Thanks, once again, for your book. Its promise is indeed delivered in this course. Wowzers, Simon!

Peace and Love to You and that Powerful Brain of Yours,
DeeJay

Re: Events - Where Communities Meet

This post, Simon, may be the MOST important one of all you've shared with us to-date. The thought of recognizing each and everything we do in the simple course of living our lives as a string of events, is eye opening in its implications.

First, this perspective demands a level of awareness far beyond anything attendant to going-through-the-motions. An event demands attention to detail; demands recognizing where a particular event falls within the general scheme of things; demands a recognized why-am-I-doing-this meaning. This is the perspective of the responsible citizen.

Second, this perspective presupposes recognition of event impacts and that -- in and of itself -- sensitizes the event initiator to the feelings of others. This perspective matures the mind-set.

Third, it keeps one's focus where it serves one the best: in the moment -- not in the past, where regrets could pull you down; or in the future where how something will turn out could cause endless, counter-productive worry.

By setting forth on a chosen journey of authentic service, aware that each moment lived is anchored to an event -- which we have a significant hand in shaping -- we choose a purposeful, examined life. This, I believe, is the path to fulfillment., right here on Earth, our community's gathering place!

That may not have come out altogether clearly...I was, nonetheless, compelled to give it a shot. As stated, THIS post is one of extraordinary significance and deserves deep, deep revisited consideration. It is a lifestyle transformer.

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Unimaginable Possibilities

Someone wiser than I has pointed out the Glories of Citizenship in the IMAGI-Nation; that particularly Human Place where ANYthing is possible. There we can peacefully worship at the throne of belief knowing that we CAN achieve what we seek. The only requirements are honesty, steadfastness, thorough preparedness, and the genuine drive to serve. Here it is important to note the one barrier if allowed to take root that will suck the farmer's fields dry. It is for us to know -- deeply and in our heart of hearts WHAT we want, but the HOW is NOT for us to try and fathom! Doing so is stunting in the short term and killing in the long term. By working steadfastly toward our authentic goals to use what we know to be of service, we are assured of untold levels of astonishment, gratitude and expressions of OMGs when unimagined possibilities reveal themselves as paths to our purpose we never knew existed. Trying to imagine the how of stuff ruins the Universe's opportunity to delight! Why do that?

Our job as human beings who have chosen to be marketers is to stay alert to possibilities; to be prepared to recognize and immediately take advantage of them when presented. Social Traffic, the book, is such an opportunity. Anyone reading these words MUST know, it is NOT by accident. Act on the still small voice that brought you here. Embrace the unimaginable possibilities.

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: The Human Dynamics

When it comes to thoughts of having tools with no purpose, it is interesting to consider the person who is an artist with NO art! These scenarios epitomize the useless; the sad; the not-even-in-the race. Prior to any mere selection of tools is purpose: What do you want to share? Why is it important? Who will it help? How? Art is the expression of an internal burn that MUST be externalized. Tools cannot rule, that is FAR beyond their capacity to serve, and service is any tool's raison d'etre. Tools that cannot be utilized for a purpose without restricting the expression of that purpose aren't tools at all. They are impairments to be avoided; tossed aside as worthless. The same may be said: Loud and Clear for disingenuous marketers and lying forked-tongued gurus. Only genuine usefulness will out.
Given the dynamics that are oh-so-magnifed by Social Media and its call to transparency, the worthy -- whether tool, purpose or person -- WILL bobble to the top, as a natural, organic outcome. Please, you're tempting fate.
The secret was told long, long ago: conceive, believe, achieve
But ONLY if your intention is to leave a glory trail & not to deceive.
The content provider's responsibility is greater than ever before
because through Social Media we can potentially knock on any door
What we say when that door is answered determines our future
Revered, influential thought-leader or Wanna-be in need of a suture!
It is a NEW DAY in the marketplace because now only QUALITY wins
And even then ONLY when presented to the proper audience and friends
If your syndicated message doesn't bring value, a nod and a smile
you will find yourself -- in pretty short order -- relegated to the cyber trash pile.
So, yes, we have new tools, new rules but the bottom line's still the same
You must give what you would want to receive to be victorious in this game.

Re: Credibility Based Marketing

Back before I knew any better
I thought it was all about being a go-getter
the problem with that I have since found
centers on relationships, solid and profound
Noise in the marketplace is simply that
and provides the reason many go splat
Know and live on both sides of the counter
to thrive as a well-received problem surmounter!

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Content Distribution Dynamics

The resonating term in this post is the refrain: People Decide. My thinking is, yes, people decide, but people have ALWAYS decided. The HUGE difference now adays is the indisputable fact that today's population decides with more information available to them At Their Fingertips than ever before in history, in any form. This freely available information flow puts the onus squarely upon the information provider. S/he who provides the best, most current, most reliable, most entertaining information is the one who gets the largest collection of nods; the largest share of attention. And THAT is the most valuable -- potentially the most fleeting -- possession a marketer can have. Given that lofty possession, the thing to do is to make the most of it. How do you do that, with both maximized ease and greatest breadth? You do it through harnessing the power of Social Traffic, the concept., by embracing and internalizing Social Traffic, the book!

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Traffic through cross syndication

This post FIRES my brain with reference to my thoughts re: Grey Hair Matters. So much so, in fact, that I've purchased the phrase as a domain name. How perfect! It's just like Xerox (remember them?) and Kleenex (still going strong), or even 3M. NOBODY had a clue as to what those terms meant until it was used in manner that let everyone (basically) on the planet know what they were talking about. Of course, back then, when they were initializing their brands, they HAD to use their deep pockets to get the word out. We, however, are in a MUCH more fortunate position -- give Social Traffic Inc and Social Media!

YAY for the 21st Century and open, innovative collaborative minds!! WE are indeed Blessed.

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Unimaginable Possibilities

I'm with you, Jonathan: the person with the BEST information, who is also be the MOST responsive (because they are the best organized) MUST win and be seen as such by those who will begin to follow and friend them. Old-school marketers should not only read (until it sinks in) Simon's book; they should also give a quick read (and a long think) to a book called: Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson, MD. These two books are a matched pair for success today and far away into the future!
Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Protected: 01 - Strategy

I absolutely LOVE the synergy of spirits Social Traffic, Inc has allowed/helped us become and be nourished by!

Peace and Love,
DeeJay

Re: Protected: 01 - Strategy

Wowzers, Jonathan, ya got me blushin'!!
