I read it out loud to IC. We actually both quite liked it. I think we got in a groove and things just started to make a bit more sense. But everyone being named the same thing was a challenge and the relationships often made us cringe big time.

I actually totally agree! Although you've been much more articulate about it. I was also a little bit disappointed in the dancing - particularly from Fran, which at the beginning is obviously cool, but in the end still seemed...clunky.

My mom is also an Orchid Lady. I think at last count she had about 70 orchids that were gifted to her by friends or relative who couldn't face throwing them out (and clearly neither can my mom!). She now trades blooming ones for nonblooming ones with my great aunt.

My husband and I read aloud to each other as well :) We mostly read non-fiction (because it's IC's favourite) but I did read the hobbit to him because he never read it – sacrilege.

I loved the Redwall series too – I think my favourite part of it was all the food (obviously). I also loved little house on the prairie, the boggart, and the secret garden! Such good ones.

I haven't read this particular DH Lawrence, but I read Women in Love which I didn't particularly love either. I personally enjoy less talk of bowels in my sex scenes. Actually just less talk of bowels, period.

I did not like the Gold Finch (I'm sorry everyone), but it was long and it was boring and the main character made stupid mistake after stupid mistake. I just didn't like it!

I think I must be heartless - I'm not really a cryer. My eyes may sting a little occasionally, but there are never full-blown tears. So happy you enjoyed it! And it was good. and I can't wait to see it!

So one of my favourite tv shows is "freaks and geeks" and they have cheerleading too - and they have a a "how funky is your chicken" chat as well. Was that really a thing? And WHY? WHY WAS IT A THING.

I totally agree with Wilhemina. Life changes, people change - and that's cool. I think that's partly why I'm so loathe to do one of these challenges or add things to my life list, because I want to make sure it is something that i really want to do in my life.

When I first moved to Melbourne I lived in the uni lodge next to Melbourne Central, but I went to the west pac on lygon street up near melb uni. And had the most CONFUSING conversation with the bank teller. She kept asking me if I lived in the city, and as if we were out of the city at the moment. The city being some Other Place...it took me a long time to figure out what people meant by "city"

I'm so impressed with all these book goals (yours and Kirsti's), I think it's so very cool. I've never been super into book goals because I think I'd put a lot of pressure on myself to complete those goals and then reading wouldn't fun for me anymore.
