I could go the vanity route and point out that I've published 6 books with them, but I allow that you may think I'm a crap writer.

Greer, A Chakra & Kundalini Workbook by John Mumford, Modern Tantra by Donald Michael Kraig, Elements of Magic by Gede Parma, Plant and Fungus Totems by Christopher Penczak, The New Tarot Handbook by Rachel Pollack, Magical Gardens by Patricia Monaghan, Practical Magic for Beginners by Brandy Williams, Jailbreaking the Goddess by LaSara Firefox Allen, Magical Use of Thought Forms by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki, Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn.

Do you consider all of these authors and their work disreputable and unworthy of respect?

That's fairly out of date information. Llewellyn works hard, nowadays, at respectable, quality titles, and I think their catalog reflects that. Weiser is not what it was. I don't think much of the way my one book with them was treated. They do have some very fine books and they remain committed to bringing classics back into print.

I've seen the outlines. I thought they left plenty of room for self-expression and individuality. I've also pushed back on things in the outline with which I disagree. If the editor is willing to work out those things, I am definitely open to proceeding. If not, well, it was a conversation.

It's appalling that people's names are being scraped. Charming perspective on my own popularity that no one is scraping "Deborah" or "Lipp." ROFL!

However, I completely disagree with Mat Auryn's criticism of work-for-hire publishing. Just about every writer has worked for spec. Provided the content is something you agree with and that works for you as a writer, I don't see how it's different, as a matter of integrity, than any other writing assignment.

If I was hired to write an essay on how the Gardnerian tradition is a load of crap, or how Wicca is as easy as waving a glitter wand, I'd refuse that assignment. If I was hired to violate my oath of secrecy, I'd refuse that assignment. These things would be a violation of my personal integrity. But if I was given a title and a word count and agreed that was something I could write? That's called professionalism.

Most of the information on elements and elemental guardians is available in my book The Way of Four. Great work pulling it together -- it all goes back to Paracelsus.

However, you have never defined "Watchtowers" here, and that's an important and disparate piece. The term comes from John Dee's Enochian system, and refers to a universe divided into quadrants, each with its own watchtower. It's not the same as the GD or alchemical understanding of the elements and elementals, and the word really doesn't belong in this discussion.

The elemental guardians, in other words, aren't really "guardians of the watchtowers," as watchtowers is a word brought in from a different system.

Saying you "find it unlikely" sounds very much like you're questioning Lilith's honesty about her own life experience. Wouldn't it be better, and more respectful, to learn from what she says rather than to doubt it?

So many men have 'found it unlikely' that I've experienced sexism. So many gentiles have 'found it unlikely' that I've experienced antisemitism. When we ourselves are spared an unpleasant experience, it's easier to doubt than to recognize our own privilege.

I haven't seen what Lilith has seen, but I don't doubt her. I'm saddened, and angered, and I hope, if I witness it, I have the courage to stand up and get in someone's face.
