I would say that people don't generally read the reviews that are being written - Dara just reviewed Minari and said that the dim sum carts were mostly a fail. Jon is awesome- I wish he wrote more. By my count he did 7 reviews in 2024. It's expensive!! Funding 3+ visits is a massive budget lift.

Influencers are calling things "hidden gems" because tiktok has become a search engine, and people are searching for hidden gems. We barely have any reviewers - it's expensive to do, people don't click on articles, so it just doesn't make sense. We sort of get the coverage we want - if people really wanted critical writing and reviews, they'd read it. They don't.

Re: Long ride ends for Minnesota Lynx

I don't watch sports, I don't watch news, I don't read the paper, but I'm hugely disappointed with the reporting. Come on, John! Women's sports should get more coverage for sure. As of the WNBA: the one-game playoffs, the short seasons (only 34 games), the relatively few numbers of teams in the league (12) along with the undeniable male-focused and male-dominated sports journalism world are factors here.

Re: Changing the world one baseball at a time

Great job Jana!

Re: Settling old scores on the obituary page

Easy for me to judge, but it appears their mom got married at 18 or 19 and had an affair with her brother-in-law at 24. I don't see the issue. Kids see the endless Viagra and Cialis ads during pro-sports broadcasts, so this isn't any more "in your face" than that.

Also the people getting mad are providing the ad even more exposure, so there's that.

Re: St. Paul bar releases the hounds on innocent Woodbury man

If it were my business, I would share images/surveillance video on Facebook and Instagram, though. So I don't blame the business owners for trying to shame people and get their stuff back. When you as a business go after an individual and tag their employer - based on a comment in a FB thread - that's dangerous stuff.

Re: They’re killing ‘Circle Me, Bert’

The Lottery sponsored Circle Me Bert last year... I can see why FSN wants a bit that all of its analysts can do. That said, they did this totally wrong (as broadcast networks often do, I should set up a consulting agency to stop these things). They should have not told Bert that Circle Me Bert is done- they should have said they've removed the Lottery sponsorship so he can hereby circle whoever and however he wants. And then two weeks later announce the addition of this new Lottery thing.

Re: Do we still need the United Way?

We've tried different approaches: and my wife still gives to United Way in her workplace campaign. We used to do $100-$200 to about 10-20 different charities, but we've narrowed in on a couple bigger gifts to a couple charities. I also wonder how many people think that giving to Go Fund Me campaigns is their charitable giving - so people are directly helping friends and neighbors who are sick, or victims of a fire or flood - and with stagnant wages there isn't much left over to donate to nonprofits. It's a real issue.

Re: Sexual harassment firings a ‘reckoning that had to happen’

Thanks Bob.

Re: Timberwolves take a giant step forward

And Alan does it without an analyst. Glad to hear the departments will still have a booth and will be reaching out and recruiting inside Loring Park.

Re: After clear-cutting trees, Mac Hammond ordered to restore bluff

FWIW, Mac Hammond buys a 60 second ad spot on WCCO called "The Winner's Minute," he doesn't have a gig with WCCO.

Re: Former White House photographer trolls Trump hand-holding

I feel the same way. Saying it's the most deadly building... well, it's giant. So I guess I'd expect that.

I wish all the parties were just more honest about what's happening: The stadium people didn't like the look of the bird-resistant glass, that's why they don't have it. The cost is nothing relative to the total cost of the building. They could afford it. They didn't want to. Not because they hate birds, because they were going for a certain look.

The bird people always said it was going to be a death trap for birds, and now they've produced evidence of 60 dead birds proving their belief that it is a killing field. Certainly it is having an impact on birds - how profound of an impact is what I'm trying to get a better handle on.

Re: As predicted, Vikings stadium is killing field for birds

Enlighten me, Bob.

Re: As predicted, Vikings stadium is killing field for birds

I guess an average of 3 per day would add up to nearly 1100 dead birds in a year. That would be bad. The argument was that the stadium was worse than a skyscraper, worse than another building because of it's location along the migration route. Any construction anywhere with windows is going to lead to the deaths of some birds. The argument was that this was worse. Is it worse? I don't know. I don't get an answer from what I've read in this story.

Re: As predicted, Vikings stadium is killing field for birds

So 60 dead birds, and an assumption that there are more dead birds = "killing field." ok.

Re: The big lie: Baseball attendance

It's like movie sales revenue.
