Thanks to Anirudh and the Vembu team! I had a great time answering these questions. My virtualization journey has been filled with a lot of great moments over the years. Nice poll. I was wondering what the VMware customer base was going to do once vSphere 4 comes out. In the past, uptake on new releases typically seemed fairly slow. I ran into quite a few shops running ESX 2.5 for a while, all the way until ESX 3.5 or 3.5 Update X was released.

Your thoughts and input were greatly appreciated, as always. Keep up the great work, and hopefully everyone will continue to share their thoughts, ideas, tools, etc with those folks just now getting into the virtualization game. There are plenty of folks who are just starting out, and more on the way, so we need to help educate them and continue to spread the word. And sites like VM/ETC are doing just that.

Dear Tom Benson and the New Orleans Saints franchise, if you are looking for someone who is IBM BladeCenter certified and VMware certified to help out with your new IT environment, I know a guy in Atlanta who would be willing to help out as long as he and I get some gameday perks, like free tickets to the Saints home games and all expenses paid for his travel. I'm hopeful that I can convince Rich, errr, him to help you out, and in the process, we can convert him from a "dirty bird" fan to a true Saints fan!

How about it Rich? ;) Haha.

I hope Mr. Blank at least jumps at the chance to get you involved. Just don't do it for a dome hotdog, a beer and a foam finger!

Hi Rich, it sounds to me like VMware is more than likely the Super Bowl virtualization product being used. Not sure why the Computerworld reporter didn't clarify that in the article one way or the other. Being specific about the blade technology and then being vague about the virtualization platform didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

And while the "dirty birds" did make it a bit closer to the big game this year, as you know, I'm still waiting for my New Orleans Saints to get there. I think we're one of like three or so teams to never get to the show... how depressing is that!?!?!

Rich, I'm with you. I do believe we share the same initial gut feeling. Perhaps, like you said, it will grow on us... but for now, I'm not feeling it. View, vClient, VDC-OS, yeah, I'm not big on change (and VMware decided to change everything!), but at least the other name changes had some basis that I could get into, understand, and the names just didn't bother me. vSphere, I'm just not grocking.

John, don't get me wrong. I totally see where you are trying to take me here with your comment above and tweet, but it just isn't doing it for me. And yeah, I know, so what, I'm not the name police. I'm just wondering, how many people will this confuse or just not sit well with. Like I said on my blog, I hope you don't mind me calling it VI4 for a while. I like it, it makes sense, and sometimes it takes us old dogs a bit longer to come on board.

I'd love to hear some of the other potential names, even if over a beer and an NDA! Haha. ;)

I heard about this on the radio, sad news indeed. I believe they also said that not only was she the voice of the original computer aboard the Enterprise, but that she reprised that role and is the voice of the computer in the new Star Trek movie coming out. Best wishes to her family.
