Aww man, really? I'm in the Chicago area, but I would most definitely pay for the shipping for some wheels. I did end up buying those cheapies, but an extra set or a set for a new build would be awesome.

Thanks for the advice! *Facepalm* I didn't even think to check the spoke tension. A quick pluck-test made it evident that my rear wheel wasn't ever really trued, it was most likely tuned to in an attempt to make a bike that can play a g chord when you run a stick through the spokes. That and the rim tape is too wide. Combine that with old-school lipless (basically deathtrap) rims and I had a recipe for $6 booms.

Glad you landed okay, and yeah, that's one hell of a blowout since it through the sidewall. Now I'm gonna buy a pressure gauge too.

Yeah, you're right about the lack of accurate capture. I just wasn't confident enough to stand in their faces and tell them "I'm going to take pictures of your ridiculous outfits." In a batter picture you would have seen the true Salvation Army wreck they have become.
