I completely agree, Ceetar. I didn't actually mean to pick Daniel Murphy, it was more a funny ha-ha way to segue into going nuts about that play in a stream of consciousness kind of way.

He needs a little bit more time to figure everything out, this is true. However, if the Mets can get a 1st baseman who can play other positions (read: NOT Nick Johnson) via trade, it might suit Murphy better to get some time in Buffalo. Remember, he went straight from AA up to the majors, so it might also be that the league figured him out, once they got an adequate amount of tape.

Believe me, Murphy's someone I root for day in and day out, and I hope he can put it together. But, if Jerry's going to be messing around with his playing time this way, to the detriment of his production, then he should be in a place where he can play every day and get some seasoning at the same time.

I'm actually pretty amazed that Jerry/Church story has such strong legs under it. This type of thing shouldn't really be this transparent, so if it's true, then Jerry is doing a pretty bad job at keeping clubhouse issues -in- the clubhouse.

I actually think Church is a very good player. The problem is he just doesn't seem comfortable. It could be because of how much scrutiny he gets in the media, but then again I might be confusing cause and effect. Bottom line is the guy needs to play more. Right now he has no value and he's the best fielding starting OF on the team not named Carlos Beltran.

This was a terrible job by the Mets. I like Figgy a lot, and think he got completely shafted here.

In general I just believe you can do more significant tinkering when it comes to the lineup, but you bring up a good point. Another conversation I think is going to start very, very soon will involve whether or not the Mets should sign Pedro.
