Carol's post would annoy me even if it were her own status. Call me impatient, but I can't stand when people tell stories like, "She was acting this way. Then she did this. Then she said this. Then I asked her this. And she said this. Then we went here. Then someone asked this again. Then she said this again..." etc. That entire story could have just been, "Bryni's tooth was hurting her really bad the other day, too."

This kid really isn't a dumbass; he's an average kid. They don't have much life experience, hence they do dumb things all the time. We all did. This kid was simply unfortunate enough to get a really bad injury.

If you never did anything dangerous when you were a kid, YOU need to get out more.

Hmm, this post stands out to me for another reason. In the midst of this great "everything natural is good and medicine is bad and boooo vaccines and real health care" movement, here we have a group of people who seem to think snot removal is a necessary thing. (Or even a thing at all. Does anyone here remember having their snot sucked out as a child? I don't, and my dad was a doctor.)

I'm sure there are cases where an infection is severe enough to warrant nasal aspiration, but for the most part, snot is serving a purpose: trapping more pathogens and contributing to immune system development. Let it be. In fact, stop making it worse by slopping your disgusting, bacteria-ridden spit all over your child's nasal cavity.

(I'm not trying to promote the natural=better agenda, as I'm a firm believer in the medical model, but this really seems like more of a case of pampering. Your child can handle a few days of discomfort.)

I'm actually more concerned about these women giving their children a bug. The mouth is laden with tons of disgusting bacteria, much more so than the nose, and those kids have fragile immune systems. This is a really strange practice.

Valerie, I understand what you are getting at, but you missed the point of the article. B does comment on the factually inaccurate political comments, but she doesn't criticize the fact that debates are occurring. It's not about the actual political debates -- it's about the parents who are making it about them. For example, even though Xandi is the more entertaining one on that post, Stefan is the one who meets the "STFU Parents" criteria.

This whole "home birth" movement makes me really uneasy. I understand that some women want to be in a more familiar environment, but... what if you or your baby has a serious medical complication? Isn't it more important to be somewhere with the resources to save your lives? You are still free to have a completely natural birth AT the the hospital, if that's what you want.

(And no, a midwife is not the same. They have their benefits, but they don't come equipped with a ventilator, blood transfusions, ability to practice surgery, etc.)
