The firmware link I posted is as described, it does not activate the phone or install cydia or installed, but it does let you downgrade a lot easier.

I'm not sure why it isn't working, I would attempt to reset the phone on a PC, by this I don't mean go through the whole downgrade, simply plug your phone into a PC and hold the power and home buttons together for 15 seconds. After that your phone should exit out of the itunes connect screen.

@Sebastian if you did the downgrade and recieved an error, your phone is in 2.2.1. The problem now is resetting your phone, are you using a mac or pc?
@hojo you can't do anything, when apple puts out 3.0 att will make a plan, it has nothing to do with apple at this point, as far as I can understand.

Hopefully it was somebody you know, and not just somebody that posted telling you to pay the $10 and they would add you. I don't know the process as I don't have a paid dev account however i would assume it should be instantaneous. The paid dev account activation does take time to create because Apple has to review it but I don't think the UUID linking takes time, whoever said they added you may not have added you, or they may not even have an account, or I could be completely wrong and have no idea what I'm talking about and it may take a day or two to go through. Hope that helps a bit, but try reading up on apple's dev site. Cheers.

If you can get your phone up and running at 2.2 you can restore it again regularly and itunes will install the newest firmware it can.

You should be able to get back down just like everybody else without the baseband issue if you have a PC try "J's" method as I have successfully restore d on a Mac and a PC.

The above link is for a zipped folder containing the ipsw, I did this for the Mac users out there, if you've ever tried downloading just a zipped ipsw with safari you know what I'm talking about.

For all of those with carrier issues, if you don't know why that's happening its because 3.0 updated your baseband, which you cannot change, at least I thought so. I'm posting a link from my iDisk for a custom restore that i created with pwnage tool, this ipsw does not include cydia, or installer, and does not activate your phone, but from what I've heard, it is possible to get your baseband down using a custom restore. Try it out and let me know if it works for you or not as I had no need to actually test it myself.
For all of you with a PC please attempt "J's" method above, for some reason it's a lot easier to do the whole restore on a PC than a Mac. Anyway, good luck to you all.

@Wesley, I've tested my instructions on windows xp and was able to get my phone back, please attempt it again from scratch, ie. 3.0. Email me with your results.

@JR, out of curiosity, if you're running 10.5.6, have you downgraded the IOUSB to allow DFU mode? Also do you have a Windows computer around you that you could connect to?

It has to activate itself, or Apple wouldn't ask you to pay, any idiot, probably including yourself, would do what you so naively suggested. Do your homework before you let your finger do the talking.

Before you start any of this make sure your iPhone is still in 3.0, if you downgraded it and can't get it back to 2.2.1, UPGRADE IT AGAIN then do this. It's tedious but it worked for me and hopefully with some luck it will work for you.
1) iPhone must be in O.S. 3.0 *IMPORTANT*
1) Enter DFU mode with the iPhone
2) Restore to 2.2.1, and receive Error 1013, or something similar, its fine, your phone is in 2.2.1 so move on.
3) Reset iPhone by holding Home and Power for 15 seconds, release and hold Power for 2 seconds (it does not matter if your phone comes back on after 13 seconds, hold it for *15*)
*NOTE* at this point I was actually able to access my phone without jailbreaking it *NOTE*
4) Open QuickPWN, enter DFU and let QuickPWN do all the work.
5) Be glad you still have an iPhone and not a brick =)
If this doesn't work for you, post and let me know if you're using Mac or Windows, I think that might have something to do with step 3), but I'm not sure.

@ hojo you need to actually reset the iphone after you have updated it. Before you do anything try updating to 3.0 again, then follow my steps again and be sure to close itunes and quickpwn after you have downgraded and before you reset the phone. Make sure to RESET the phone, that is probably the most important part because quickpwn will not see it.

Okay got my phone back!
1) Enter DFU mode with the iPhone
2) Restore to 2.2.1, and receive Error 1013

Live Crunch I did the downrestore and it gave the 1013 error. It is now sitting on the plug into itunes screen, and quickpwn doesn’t see it, any ideas?

Thanks Live Crunch, I'm going through it right now, I'll post back with my result, also for those that haven't tried it, 3.0 will not work with, or without the internet active, which was expected, well it didn't work for me at least. Has anybody successfully installed 3.0 without a Dev Account?

Its not too appealing to see an Apple disclaimer that tells you that you cannot get back down from 3.0, however DFU mode should take you right back, any thoughts on this?
