But the way he conducts this dialogue turns me off. He doesn't give Chomsky time to finish his thoughts and likes to hear himself talk. He could use some lessons from our gracious host Socrates who does exactly the opposite.

Re: Noam Chomsky: The Singularity is Science Fiction!

Well said. I like the Strong / Weak delineation. Strong being actual thinking and Weak being brute force. Regarding the weak, the more data we input the better the chance of the program finding some connection we missed. Humans tend to seek for complicated answers when the answer is often quite simple. If the weak AI came up with an answer / connection that had been missed e.g. "what about dong it this way" then in a sense it has created. If we implement that suggestion and add it to the database it may come up with another. This is AI "creating" a better AI. It may even come up with a suggestion for a previously un thought of search algorithm. It may be Weak AI which gets us to the Strong AI.

Re: So What Happens if Voyager One Actually Meets E.T.?

If a Voyager type spacecraft came into our solar system how and how soon would we know? All could read but post would be on an invite basis only.

Re: cmdrtaco may have a point

It's exhausting if you try to do to much. The Internet and Reddit are places for sharing information not trying to get everyone to think like us. If the only thing one did was to point out the slant of a source or a share a place to find other information that would be the sharing that helps others along the path to understandering what open minded means.
