While there is definitely an upside to a system like that; the genius playlist in iTunes suggesting music based on what I like to listen to is a perfect example of that, I'd sleep better at night knowing I had the option to opt-out of that sort of treatment. Say I accidentally recorded an episode of something weird on Tivo, and now it's labeled as a show I enjoy by a system I have no direct influence over. It'd be a little weird to have to explain to my parents why Tivo keeps suggesting "Queer Eye" or Skinamax porn when we just wanted to watch some TV at a family gathering.

I'm happy to see some of that traditional game-y feel translating into video-game success. Dawn of War is huge, there's still hope for a good and faithful Shadowrun game, and even Blood Bowl is getting a release over Xbox Live later this year.

The single-player maybe, but Scott and I played through a huge portion of the game 2-player and loved it. Two Nilsons, one metal head and one in a suit, riding around on a motorcycle with tank treads for wheels and twin linked chainguns...

...fucking awesome. We'd do crazy stuff with the helicopter, like one of us would steal a tank and the other would pick them up with the winch...now we have a wrecking ball with a cannon turret on it swinging from an attack copter.

Sorry Shepley, but Chief doesn't do much that could be construed as really "bad ass". He soldiers around, he shoots a lot of aliens, but in the end he's just a guy following his orders. Without the books to give him some character-weight he's pretty two-dimensional.
