This is absolutely correct. It won't happen but should.

SF could lead the nation by showing how to correctly deal with, marginalize and put these sad, misanthropic losers in the proper perspective by giving their message all the attention it deserves - which is to say - none whatsoever.

What if nobody showed up? Not just an absence of counter-protesters, but no one? No reporters, no TV cameras, no talking heads. What if not one word of their idiotic bile was recorded, reported, or replayed on any media except on their own auto-fellating blogs and websites? What if no pictures of their nazi and confederate flags were displayed on any mainstream media? What if we as a city and a nation just turn our collective backs on them?

Okay maybe a one paragraph story on page 10 of the Chronicle would be okay. Something like: "A small group of fringe protesters of no importance secured a permit and held a rally on Crissy Field. They were mostly ignored or laughed at by locals."

Like I said - it won't happen, but I wish it would.

You've got to feel good about the people in EssEff supporting this in such a big way.

In some ways, you can compare this to the way the City responded to Emperor Norton in the late1800's - when everyone including police, newspapers, hotel owners, barkeeps and the citizenry collectively decided to adopt and humor the deluded fantasy of one man. And everyone was better for it.

Since so much of the economy hinges on the verbal and physical tics of our Fed Chairman, I don't think it inappropriate or unreasonable to have him strapped to a chair and all his bodily functions wired and broadcast live whenever he is speaking publicly on Fed Policy. I'm talking galvanic skin response, heart rate, blood pressure, EEG, core temp via rectal thermometer, close up camera to monitor pupil dilation, breathing rate, perspiration response, voice harmonics, etc. Think Malcolm McDowell in "Clockwork Orange". I mean - are we going to get real transparency in Fed policy or not?

The answer depends on the answer to other questions. Is the loophole so great that the commission payout under the terms of the comp plan threatens the financial health of the company or actually makes the deal unprofitable? It seems unlikely that the comp plan could be that incompetently designed, but I suppose it is possible. Then the question becomes: Is the improvement in profitability on the deal worth losing a heavy hitter like Dave and undermining the credibility of the company and executive staff with the sales organization?

If so, then of course the organization's financial stability takes priority and the company will need to renege on the plan.

If the financial impact is anything less and this is just a subjective perception by some in the organization that "Dave" is getting paid too much... then the correct answer is pay the man.

Salespeople live and die by the comp plan. If they can't trust that the company will live up to the terms of the plan they'll feel they are standing in quicksand. If they do not have confidence that commissions will be paid based on the terms of the comp plan it completely defeats the entire raison d'etre of a leveraged uncapped comp plan. Instead of being motivational to drive higher revenue, trust in the company and executive management is severely undermined and morale will drop. The credibility of the VP Sales will be lost if there is a perception that he/she is unwilling or unable to effectively fight for his team.

As a sales rep, you'd also have to ask how the company treats the converse of this situation. Are executives looking at the compensation of their sales reps at the end of the year and if the numbers fall consistently short of the rev plan (implying a flawed over ambitious plan), will they adjust compensation to pay sales people above what is called for in the comp plan?

Elections do indeed have consequences and the election in 2012 determined that there would be no change in the balance of power in in Washington D.C. We went into the election with a a divided government - Democrats controlling the Executive and Senate, Republicans controlling the House. We came out of the election with the status quo intact. Klein correctly points out the obvious - the sequester was a compromise solution agreed by the same divided government that the most recent election confirmed.

The sequester is not a crisis. The sequester is not the problem. The sequester is a partial compromise solution to the real problem - out of control federal spending. Let the sequester cuts go into effect. They are a first small step back from the brink and putting us on the path to fiscal sanity.

It's a much trickier move to learn than Tebowing, Eastwooding or Kaepernicking but has potential to catch on - perhaps even a new dance craze a/la Gangnan style. What I'd really like to see is the 49er cheerleaders choreograph a Superbowl sideline cheer based on Harbaughing. That would be awesome.

I've never understood why anyone would eat black "Red Vines". I mean - they are supposed to be red - it's right in the name. Black "Red Vines"? You are just asking for trouble.

Red doesn't pretend to taste or look like anything in nature because - you know - it isn't. There are no natural ingredients here. They are 100% pure artificially colored and artificially flavored "red". I've always admired the fundamental integrity of the product. Red is a good flavor.

But not the black. It's pretending to be licorice. It isn't.

Perhaps I can help. Recall that there are three legs to the GOP stool. Fiscal conservatives like Ryan are but one leg. The stool is also supported by the anti-libertarian neocon security leg and equally anti-libertarian social conservative leg. With One Party Republican Rule there are no meaningful checks, balances or oversight on either the Neocons or Socialcons to protect our civil liberties. Perhaps it would be best to go back and recall the words of Ilya Somin circa 2006/2007 in the wake of the last disastrous episode of One Party Republican Rule:

"In a series of posts last September (see here and here), I predicted that the cause of limited government would be better off if the Democrats took control of at least the House of Representatives. I reasoned that Bush would be more likely to oppose new government programs passed by the Democrats than those advanced by his own Party. The Democrats, for their part, would be unlikely to enact new government-expanding initiatives advocated by Bush, such as the major expansions of federal spending and regulation that he pushed through Congress in his first term. So far, this prediction has held true. Bush and the congressional Republicans have prevented the Democrats from passing most of their government-expanding agenda. The Democrats, in turn, have taken away from Bush the option of pursuing a big government agenda of his own (as he did in the first term with his prescription drug and education bills). Historically, divided government has been a boon for limited government, and the past year has been no exception."

Not to mention the two unpaid trillion dollar wars launched during that unfortunate episode. Look - Obama has been a terrible President. His first two years of One Party Democratic Rule was the worst. But One Party Republican Rule was and will be almost as bad. Choose wisely.

I didn't know she was sick. I didn't know she was gay. I did know Sally Ride was a true pioneer of the space age. The way she "came out" seems right. Just a matter-of-fact statement in her obituary that names the partner who survived her. That's it. Exactly like any other married couple. A simple statement of who she was and who she loved. But the way it was said was also a statement that her sexual orientation was not what defined her life and purpose. She thought she was first and foremost a scientist, astronaut, explorer and educator. Her sexual orientation was no big deal. Just an element of who she was. And isn't that the way it should be?

Andrew Sullivan apparently doesn't think that way about his own life and so he doesn't think Sally Ride or anyone else should think that way either. Sullivan is first and and foremost... what? A writer? A pundit? A blogger? Or does his sexuality trump everything else in his life? He can decide for himself, but he certainly has no right to judge Sally Ride on the decisions she made on how to live and prioritize the remarkable facets of her extraordinary life.

Keep in mind that these "generation x",y,z, "millies", or whatever the fuck they call themselves are the very generations that put Obama in office, are by extension responsible for Obamacare, and polls show they even disproportionately support Obamacare [snicker.. guffaw].

I mean, since you, me and the rest of the boomers will be the primary beneficiaries of Obamacare, since we will be consuming the lion's share of the costs and expenses of Obamacare, and the increased burden of the ACA mandate/tax will fall on these generations that follow us, I think we can excuse them for a little boorish behavior on your favorite river. It's best if they just stay drunk and not figure out what is going on.

A special note to you youngsters - Permit me to represent and express the appreciation of all my generation (Including Tom) to you and your generation. Thank you so much for carrying the financial burden of our fat-ass aging Boomer healthcare on your backs for the next 20-40 years. If you have not figured this out (and most of you have not), Obamacare, Social Security, Medicare etc. etc. are all essentially generational Ponzi schemes, and like all Ponzi schemes, they only work for as long as more new suckers can be found to pay into the scheme so that the older "investors" can cash out. That would be us Boomers cashing out. We'll make out like the bandits we are.

One more piece of advice for you poor young suckers - I strongly suggest you get real busy making lots and lots of babies. You are going to need a lot more if there are going to be enough in the next generation to support you as you will be supporting us. Thanks again!!!

And then we have to ask: Why is it so important that the Board of Supervisors not be permitted vote on whether Ross Mirkarimi is fit to serve as Sheriff? Who wants to prevent that vote?

Remember that the Ethics Committee does not make a determination of fitness for office. They are only determining whether it should be put to a vote of the Supervisors. Determining fitness is the supe's responsibility. Even if it goes to a vote of the BOS, it only takes three of the eleven supervisors to say that Mirkarimi is fit to serve as Sheriff and he gets to keep his job (well - at least until he is recalled). A pretty easy bar to clear.

The people of San Francisco deserve to see a vote from the Board of Supervisors on whether Mirk should keep his job after pleading guilty and copping a plea. We deserve to know where each supervisor stands.
