Freedom and democracy are really higher order concepts (think Maslow's hierarchy of needs). Human nature would choose stability/security (or the perception there of) over democracy or freedom.

1/2 dozen court dates for stealing gutters - that's what is wrong with the system - this should have been 2 appearances - one for arraignment and one to learn their sentence

Danvers bank is opening a branch at Devonshire and Milk in Boston. Peoples United opened a branch on the opposite corner of Devonshire and Milk - talk about jobs creation! And I'm sure both branches will stay and eveyone will keep their job at these 2 convenient locations!!
