I think we should all send emails to ourselves on a daily basis, and mention things like buying $10,000,000 homes, getting a new Mercedes, and purchasing lots of high calibre weapons, just in case. It would drive the TSA and Google and the NSA nuts!!

Instead of over thousands of years, it will happen over 10's of years. No need to wait for another generation, my grandkids will see it before they are as old as I am. North Pole ice gone by (easily) 2025, Greenland will be green by 2030, (OK, still a lot of ice there,but a lot will be gone, too) and next on the menu is the Antarctic. And the various species won't have time to adapt and migrate. They will be cut off and isolated and die.

But if you scratch it off or file it off, it can be recovered with acid. Due to the stamping effect of the numbers the metal is more compressed and harder under the numbers so when they are filed smooth, then soaked in acid the numbers erode away slower than the rest of the metal basically and the numbers resurface.

Serial numbers that are scratched off can be recovered. The imprint process leaves a trace of the number below the imprint. The concussion of the stamping process radiates down into the metal below. I hope they catch the Son of the Gun who sold it.
