Try this quote from someone smart enough to invent Climate Change and Nuclear winter; “She had to fight against developing too combative a personality or
becoming altogether a misanthrope. She suddenly caught herself.
"Misanthrope" is someone who dislikes everybody, not just men.
And
they certainly had a word for someone who hates women: "misogynist." But
the male lexicographers had somehow neglected to coin a word for the
dislike of men. They were almost entirely men themselves, she thought,
and had been unable to imagine a market for such a word.”

  ―

    Carl Sagan,

      Contact

Re: Chronic For The Tonic

I don't know - A few neat Gins might improve this customer's outlook :D

Re: Chronic For The Tonic

And they say misandry doesn't exist.

Re: Holding On To That Bakers’ Dozen

This really isn't funny. More amused and annoyed than anything else, the female staff put up with this for some time, until a new hire came in; She answered the phone, he gave his usual response, to which she quickly replied "Socks".
There was a gasp from the other end of the line. Then the voice said " You dirty b****" and hung up.
Never to call back.

Re: The Kind Of People Who Think Ketchup Is A Spice

Have you had Marmite, though?

Re: That’s A Compliment In Anyone’s Book

No idea.
No-one's really tried to turn me on ;/

Re: That’s A Compliment In Anyone’s Book

I was until I read what my post looks like, after it was flagged "Our moderators will clear this shortly".

Re: That’s A Compliment In Anyone’s Book

Maybe the *concept* of bookshops has become lost as the exposure people have to them becomes less and less over time. And IMHO irreleavnt to the discussion ( We were talking about the lack of funding for astronomy at the time )
*Opens Dictionary Tab* Not sure "supercilious' counts here; What the person I was referring to generally does is when confronted with a question like "When can we see [product] available?" or "Will [Feature] be part of the [Product]?" replies with such comments as " I'm really glad you asked that! You'll be pelasantly surpised at how we have handled that issue, and I can tell you , we are working away busily behind the scenes here in a dynamic fashion to achieve all that and more! Morevover, we are aiming at a release very soon - which will astound everyone, let me tell you! - somewhere around [month]"
When nothign happens in [month], and he's asked about it he replies " Pretty sure I didn't specify with any certainty [month ] would see anything . . . After all, if you knew what was happening and what still needs doing here to perfect this great [product] you'd know the challenges we face . . "
Not so much "Behaving or looking as though one is superior to others " ( Definition of supercilious) more like "Not candid or sincere, typically by pretending one knows less about soemthign than one really does" ( Definition of disingenuous ). Though Ingenuous in the meaning of "shrewd and sharp-witted" *could* apply.
In any event it underlines my point about reading comprehension not being a good test for voting eligibility.

Re: So That’s Where It Went Wrong…

Probably for the same reason no-one has ever tried to ride a bicycle at the speed of light; The evidence is against the success.
That evidence being the constant failure to create a non-biased and "fair" IQ test that didn't have some form of cultural, etnhic or social imbalance, real or imagined.

Re: Coconuts About Dairy

"I resent that!
